Axolotl - Aquariums - My hungry baby

My hungry baby

Posted: 01 Mar 2020 09:00 PM PST

My babies won’t eat unless they’re hand fed. Is it because I have black sand and they can’t see the bloodworms or are they just spoiled?

Advice for my baby

Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:54 AM PST

My axolotl has been holding his mouth open and he won't eat. I'm so worried because he is getting thin. He still swims around and doesn't act tired. We have no vets in the area that take axolotls so an advice would help.

getting an axolotl soon, advice?

Posted: 02 Mar 2020 10:40 AM PST

hi all, I know all the basics of axolotl care - I've begun cycling my tank, I've got a stockpile of various foods for him (bloodworms, brine shrimp, and pellets), I've got almost everything set up. What I'm looking for is more advanced or niche or less-known advice! Thanks all :)

Amber Mason Jar used as tank hide?

Posted: 02 Mar 2020 09:52 AM PST

Currently I have a clear Mason jar in my axolotl's tank as a little play place for him. However, I'm thinking of changing it out for an Amber colored one because they block out more light, so it would be a better cave for him. This shouldn't be a problem as far as things being released from the jar into the water? Google doesn't have any helpful advice, but I figured since they're food grade then they'd be okay? Thanks!

a quick question

I don't own an Axolotl yet, I am just wondering how often they need to be fed? I want to get one and I am just doing my research right now.

Experience taking sand out of aquarium?

Posted: 02 Mar 2020 07:25 AM PST

I'm thinking about removing the sand in my axolotl's tank. I'm just tired of cleaning the mess and it should be easier with a bare bottom. Any advice on the easiest way to do this? Also I was scared of my cycle crashing even though I know the filter still has a ton of bacteria so should I be worried? Should I do a little bit at a time?

Thanks!
