I’m getting an axolotl today!

Hey all I'm getting my axolotl today, my tank is ready and cycled but I'm wondering what should I add to it (I have a pot, some sand, and a rock hide) are there any good live plants I can add? Any plants I should avoid? Thanks!

My axolotl tank fan broke and ordering another one—it won't be here until Sunday. What can I do to keep the water cold?

Hey Reddit, does her tail look a little too red to you? She has been swimming around quite a bit today, so I'm hoping it's blood rushing to the tail, but still, just want to make sure

Beezelbub is a little plumpkin 5 3/4" long now. Waters cloudy from Indian almond leaf's, his gill tip looked a little white so I put some tannin in just in case and I've been keeping a close watch but looks good so far. If not then black tea bath for Bub's.

RIP Baby Prismo: passed away from a bad fungal infection, but this photo is him a few days prior (& happy as a clam) :(

Hey guys and gals, does anyone know if axolotls are more active and less stressed with blue light over white light? just curious as blue seems alot darker for them but bright enough so you can still watch them.

No filter axolotl tank, can it be done?

Posted: 13 Mar 2020 12:41 AM PDT

Hi there!

I'm an amateur aquarist and I've recently setup my first no filter and no co2 or ferts tank that I've dubbed 'Snail City' that's home to two danio pearls, 3 species of snail and 3 shrimp. I followed the guidelines of Diana walstaads book ecology of the planted aquarium and have become very invested in the idea of a natural ecosystem aquarium.

I was wondering if it's possible to recreate a natural ecosystem that an axolotl can live in? This would involve a soil substrate with a layer of large rocks above it followed by a layer of sand. I would plant it with a large variety of plants (all safely secured so the hooligans can't dig them up) and let them build up over at least a 2 month period and then introduce the axolotl into the aquarium. Is it possible to do this and create a no co2 and no filter aquarium home for an axolotl?

I've loved following this subreddit, thank you <3

Advice needed: Got this little guy in the mail today

Attached is a link to photos. Boba is the GFP Melanoid & Sushi is the GFP White Albino. I got Boba today, he was shipped from Florida to Texas. When we got him he ate, but looks SUPER stressed out compared to Sushi. His gills are curled back, and I've noticed it's not nearly as fluffy. I had him in the tank bc the breeder said it would be fine to put him in, but ended up taking him out and putting him in a tubber ware. What can I do to make him more comfortable? He barely ate the blood worms, and he was fasted for basically 4 days since it took an extra day for him to get here. I'm worried about this little guy. I'm a new axolotl owner, & I'm trying my best 😭
