Aquatic Koi How do I catch these koi? |
| Posted: 10 Mar 2020 08:03 AM PDT We bought a house late last year that had a "koi pond" (actually just a mud puddle with about 2' of mud with no filtration or aeration or anything). We've been hustling to make a new pond and it's finally done, so we want to move the fish from the old pond to the new one. But all of our planning has come to a screeching halt because we can't catch the @#$^ing fish. It seemed so easy: one of us will use a net to guide the fish into a very large bucket, and wham bam thank you ma'am. JUST KIDDING. We can only reliably find the one 8" white and orange one... but he outsmarted us, and within a minute or two of trying to bucket him up, the water was completely opaque from all the mud being swirled up into the water. The pond is more than 12' long and about 10' wide so we can't really do much without wading in and stirring up all the mud. All we've accomplished is making the mud puddle muddier and very smelly from all the trapped gases in the muck being released. I still can't find the fish 24 hours later - I think he's buried in the mud. I can't find the other fish at all (skinny black one, I suspect it may actually be a catfish and not a koi.) And for all we know there may be other, smaller ones in there - we can't tell because the pond is in such terrible shape. If I drain the pond to try and find them, it's just going to be mud once the water level goes down not even 6 inches - won't they suffocate in the mud? How the $@# do I find & catch these fish?! Especially since the net broke due to the amount of heavy clay mud? [link] [comments]  |
