Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Put them both in the tank a few hours ago...the nem already planted it’s foot in the first spot we put it and looks really happy. Everyone meet Cartier.

About 70-90% of coral reefs are likely to disappear in the next 20 years.

Woke up the other day to a bunch of little orangish things floating at the top of my tank. Any idea what these are? I have a pair of clownfish in there, is it possible that these are eggs?

Arrow crab attacked cleaner shrimp

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:35 PM PST

I got an arrow crab a few months ago that I absolutely love but he recently ripped all the whiskers off of one of my cleaner shrimp so I will sadly have to take him back to the store..... I'm sad cause I love my cleaner shrimp and my crab was really cool and as far as I know arrow crabs are one of the 100% reef safe crabs but I might be wrong. It's a sad day

I got this ultra green favite 10 days ago and it’s turning brown. It puffs up during the night quite a lot and I feed reef roids every other day. Does it need more light? Running 165watt phlizon reef led at 50% in a 30 gallon tank for 9 hours a day.

What is the best of the best, equipment wise?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:01 PM PST

Hey All,

I used to have a few reef tanks and predator tanks about 15 years ago and it seems that a lot has changed since then. I've got the itch and want to start a new tank for myself, but also for my little kids to start experiencing.

My question is, what is the best brand for each piece of equipment? Wave pumps, protein skimmers, lights, monitoring systems, etc? What would your ideal setup consist of?

I know I can skim a thousand posts on here and on Canreef but wanted to get a more direct idea of what is considered the top notch brands to try and go for.

Thanks in advance!
