Live food question

Posted: 25 Feb 2020 12:16 AM PST

So last week I bought some tiny live mealworms. I've been doling out a few here and there to my goldies, and I've noticed that while Juice fancies herself a worm slayer and grabs most of them, Birdie will eat one or two, but Tank... He just doesn't get it. At most, he'll kind of headbutt the worm while it's floating but he's not actually eaten any of them.

Is there any way besides just making live food occasionally available to them to encourage him to actually try to get a worm?

I would love to see Tank enjoying treats too.

And to those of you who are going to cry that it's too much protein, it's a treat, not a diet change. They're still eating veggies and pellets and chewing up my plants.

New heater, should I use it?

Posted: 24 Feb 2020 01:19 PM PST

I recently upgraded to better and larger tank and it came with a heater. I have 1 comet goldfish and 2 pink fantails. I've been googling around to try and find out whether I should go up in temperature and what temperature to go up to but I have been finding some very mixed results. Currently I was thinking that I might set the heater to 21 degrees celsius but I thought I would ask for some advice prior to this. Cheers.

Pearl scale goldfish!

Posted: 24 Feb 2020 11:00 AM PST

Hello!

I have a pearl scale goldfish and he had a white growth on him. I did a 50% water change right away just in case it was a fungal growth. Any tips on what I can add to the water just for safe measures?

Thank you!

I have an old tiny tank that I'm currently using and I got a new tank , I have to cycle the new tank and I was wondering if I can use the old dirty water? If so, how much do I add if I have in total 55g?

How can I tell if I'm underfeeding?

Posted: 24 Feb 2020 01:26 AM PST

A while back I used to feed my guys pellets but was noticing waste from pellets that went uneaten. When I recently got a bigger tank with a better filter system I also swapped to flakes. On the plus side, there's a lot less waste, but on the other hand, there's also less fish waste. I can't tell if it's the new filter or if they're eating less.

The tips I've found online have been "If you're underfeeding they look thin or die" which isn't overly useful. Is there anything else I can look for short of "Your fish have starved"?
