Questions about my goldfish

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 04:04 PM PST

I have a 2.5 yr old oranda goldfish that I bought from petco. I came to the good people of this subreddit because I'm having trouble identifying its gender—I wanna say she's a girl which is unfortunate considering her name is Jebediah. I would appreciate some second opinions on her gender. She's also supposed to be an orange cap oranda, but she barely has a wen at all. Is that just due to bad genetics?

Tank info if that helps: She's in a newish 29-gallon tank with 5 zebra danios and one black moor, but she spent the first ~2 years of her life alone in a 10 gallon (too small, I know). I'm using an aqueon quietflow 20 filter.

Brand new 65g tank failed. I am devastated.

Posted: 17 Feb 2020 08:21 AM PST

I bought a new tank to upgrade from my old one on Friday.
When I spoke to the girl at Petsmart I brought up my hesitation about the tank because there were some pretty negative reviews online and I didn't want to be one of those people.

She assured me she hasn't gotten any of these tanks back and I shouldn't have a problem so I bought the tank. Got it home, set it up and threw my old filter cartridge into the new filter and moved my Goldie friends over.

I have been on cloud nine all weekend about this thing until this morning.

I was eating breakfast and heard water running in the family room. Got up to check, sure enough there is water POURING out of the tank around the bottom. I am not sure if the glass failed or the silicone seal failed. But I had to get water out as fast as I could to avoid destroying the wood.

Now I have my plants and fish in a bucket and I can't do anything until tomorrow because its a holiday.

What should I do? Should I return the whole setup (stand and all) or should I ask PetSmart to give me another tank and hope I just was unlucky?

What do I do about the fish for the day? Will they be okay if I run a bubbler in the bucket they're in?
I want to pull my hair out. I could cry right now.

Please help! My fish has developed black/ grey spots overnight with 0 Ammonia!

Please help! My fish has developed black/ grey spots overnight with 0 Ammonia!

My black moor has been changing from black to gold for several months and on Friday I noticed a single black/ greyish scale. Now 2 days later he has a lot more scales with the same problem on both sides of his body. What is this??

My ammonia is 0 , Nitrate-0 Nitrate- 30. My tank is established with a working cycle and I changed the water on Friday. The only new thing introduced to the tank is a nerite snail.

Since this can't be ammonia burns as there is no ammonia, what else could it be? Can he change back to black after going from black to gold in the first place?
