Can anyone help me figure out what’s going on with my axies gills? Only these 2 are bent and seem to be getting less feather-y :(

Few Questions about my Axolotl

Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:51 PM PST

Just got one today, and she was introduced into the tank. Im going to change the water every other day for a few weeks at a quarter of the 35 gallon tank every time its changed. Good? Bad? Tank is rigged with a hanging filter with a sponge beneath to let the water trickle in gently and has an abundance of plant life.

I have 50 white cloud minnows in the tank with it but they are leaving her alone. I also have about 15 ghost shrimp in there aswell. Will those be adequate for a food source for my axolotl? Or should I invest in to some earth worms? I haven't seen her go after the feeders yet, but my hope is when she gets hungry she'll start searching. The fish and shrimp were introduced a few days ago.

Is it a good idea to freeze some water bottles and change them out in the tank to keep it cool? Tank currently sits at 18° sharp but I'm worried it may get warmer. Been at 18 for 3 days though.

How should I approach cleaning poop? Anything else I should be careful of?

Thanks in advance, I really want to make her as comfortable as possible.
