What is gas buildup?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:04 PM PST

I saw a post about a snail that got out of its shell and died. And people thought it might be gas buildup.

My mystery snail plays in my air stone and gets bubbles in his shell. The bubbles are usually released but should I be worried if they don't.

The air stone is for baby shrimp.

Either something that won't rot or an easy way to contain the veggies. Thanks

Stubborn ammonia levels--how do I get back on track?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:49 PM PST

I have 2 mystery snails in a 6-week old 15g tank. Before I added the snails, I let the tank cycle and all the water parameters were looking good. Then I got high ammonia readings a couple of weeks ago and have had a lot of trouble getting them down after trying water changes and adding a chunk of a pet store's established filter to my own. The snails are barely moving and seem to be on the brink of death, so I moved them to a 6-month old 3.5g tank for now.

How should I go about getting my 15g tank back on track? Should I completely empty it and start all over or is there a better (and quicker) way?

What kind of snail should I get?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:13 AM PST

Thinking of getting one snail for my 29 gallon aquarium to help keep the substrate nice and turned over, but I don't know what kind to get. I don't want one that will climb out of the tank or eat my plants as it's going to have plants and it is lidless. I only want one; or one that one breed I don't want baby snails as i know how hard they are to rehome and i dont want to kill them. Any suggestions on what to get?

How long does it take for ramshorn snails to breed?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:27 AM PST

I have two or three ramshorn snails in my tank and I want to breed them. They came with some plants I bought from the pet store and have been in there for about three days. How long until they start breeding? Can they breed if they're different sizes because one is an adult and the other one is a baby?
