Fresh veggies

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:13 PM PST

I'd like to start feeding my goldfish some fresh veggies but I read that hard things such as carrots should be boiled first. Is this true? What are the best ones for them?

What did my goldfish poop out?

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:13 PM PST

Imgur

Absorbed eggs? Parasite things? That was one long strand wrapped around the filter intake. They've pooped shorter versions of this before but this is like at least a foot long!? I'm not 100% on their genders. They both have tubercles but I know that's not a hard and fast rule. No other funky symptoms going on.

55g, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, 20 degrees C, mix of dried pellets and repashy blends

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to your fishies

Sand in tank

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:10 PM PST

I recently added the black sand, aquarium gravel from local pet store, and curious about up keep?

I have 2 fish and also added a snail.

Any suggestions for a newbie like myself?

What consistency should Soilent Green be?

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:53 PM PST

I received Soilent Green in the mail today, and I mixed 1/4 cup of powder with half a cup boiling water. But it was thick and didnt really pour into my mold, I had to use a spatula to scoop it out of the bowl and spread it in. I just want to know if that's the norm or should I add more water next time? My chonks didn't seem to have an issue with it and gobbled it up regardless.

Is this an ammonia burn? This comet came with the tank when I purchased it(used) and has always had these darker patches. Will it go away eventually?

I think my fish may be trying to breed

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:15 PM PST

I have 2 goldfish, both about two, and one of them keeps "biting" at the others belly. Does this mean they are trying to breed? Is this normal?

Can't get pH to rise

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:12 PM PST

Just upgraded my single common goldfish to a 30g, tank is properly cycled, adequately filtered. 0ammonia 0nitrite and ~20 nitrate, however pH is at 6.6 and won't budge. I've been testing it and using API pH Up daily for a week or so now with no luck. What do?

Formerly active Oranda bottom sitting, odd white possible wen growth, looks like some black sand sprinkled on him as well? More details in comments.
