Too much current?

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:36 AM PST

How much curent is too much current? My filter creates some current in my water, and I know current stresses axolotls out. Right now, it's only enough to gently sway her gills, and that's all. Is that still too much? All help is greatly appreciated?

Woah. I am in love with Zee’s gorgeous iridophores (shiny patches) so much! What a stunner. I still couldn’t believe that this is the same dude I actually rescued in last October! He actually turned out to be so beautiful!!

Advice for Axolotl Tank Care!

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 10:12 AM PST

Hey everyone! I've had an adorable new baby for a good month or so now and life's been great for him.

However, there is just one teensy issue: there is ammonia in his tank.

I've been trying for almost 2 weeks now to lower the ammonia levels in his tank. He doesn't look to be under any stress...in fact he looks fine. However, when I do the API Ammonia test, I always get a green color and a level of 2.0 which I KNOW is not good.

I've checked his sand substrate, do 25% to 50% water changes almost daily, feed him every other day (I've kept him on a little bit of a lower amount), bought aquatic plant life, clean waste and poop as soon as it shows and done so much already but the ammonia just does NOT wanna lower.

On top of that, his water is extremely cloudy. You can barely look into his tank. I've done my research and it is most likely a bacterial bloom, which I really hoping lowers soon as it's been this level of cloudy for about a week in a half now.

Perhaps I've used too much chemicals...I have ammo lock and used water clarifier but I don't want to hide the issue I want to rid myself of it for his sake.

The clarifier doesn't even work half the time.

The axolotl himself is fine. He is just swimming around, crawling and shows no signs of any discomfort.

But I really dont want to risk anything.

I have a Tetra Whisper IQ 10 gallon if that could provide any indication. I have also considered just going bare tank instead of having sand substrate...nevertheless, I'd appreciate the help!

Thank you!
