Re scapeing/re viveing a 5 gallon? (With living things!)

Posted: 21 Oct 2019 11:21 AM PDT

Hey! Sorry for back to back questions but: Im thinking about just jumping in and doing everything i can by hand to restore this hazey tank back to something im happy to look at. What would be the best way to go about keeping my shrimp and if i find them assassin snails, as well as any plants I'd like to keep during the process of emptying and rescaping the 5 gal? Plus any tips for the rescaping and emptying process itself and how to clean filters/heaters/themotors without completly ruining the cycle for the yellow bois that gotta go back in.

Thank you for reading and any advice in advance! (Check out my previous post for a little more information on whats going on with the tank. I forgot to mention in that post there is also a peice of wood and some rocks in the tank. I think one of the rocks might be dead coral.)

5 gallon problems, algae, scuds and avoiding over stockage?

Posted: 21 Oct 2019 11:06 AM PDT

TLDR; Is 2-3 all male or female guppies + 2-3 amono shrimp a good idea to take care of algae and scuds in my shrimp (7-14 shrimp) tank. To much for the 5 gallon? Better suggestion? Very bad idea?

I need some help, my 5 gallon shrimp tank I started last year around christmas is struggling a bit. I've got alot of alge on the front of the tank, and a greenish tinge going on PLUS the worlds largest population of some sort of annoying pest snail and scuds in a 5 gallon tank ever... So I've searched around for some soultions and one I'd really like to do but I'm not sure if I can because of the small tank size is; adding some amono shrimp and guppies into the mix. Guppies to eat the scuds and the amonos for algae. Now I know guppies will eat baby shrimp thats okay, im not really bredding shrimp here just like some in the tank. I plan on adding enough hideing moss and such for the baby shrimp too! (Now with this I'd add maybe 2 or 3 all male or all fenale guppies not sure which is better, and 2 or 3 amono shrimp i read 6 is best but again stockage.)

So currently tank tech stats: 5 gallon Aqueon clip on planted tank led light Sponge filter (belive its a 5-10 gallon one) Small heater (cannot remeber the brand recommend from big als aquiarum store belive its for betta bowls and such) Annoying corkscrew val taking over Few left over strands of red ludwigia i cannot get completly out. Yellow shrimp (somewhere between 7-14?) Assassin snails that may have been chocked out by all the intruder snails (2-4 depends who lived i never see them)

Despite the issues my shrimp are going strong, i've assumed they mutated into some sort of feral ghoul shrimp... but who knows? So for the most part my problems are aesthetic, i prefer the natrual soution but if thats a no go because of size any kind of tips are helpful.

Really just want these little babes to be healthy and happy. They help me alot when im struggling mentally, little yellow sunshines cheer ya up!

(Also if you have any tips to get over the fear of sucking up baby shrimp and flushing them during a water change would be greeeeeat. Tend to avoid them in favor of adding treated declorinator and amonia/waste cleaner water for the evaporated stuff. Water change/ways to stave off water changes but keep tank healthy advice would be rad to but now im just babbleing.)

Thanks for reading, and for any advice. Sorry for spelling/grammer not my best subject.
