How do you tell the difference between a young goldfish and a stunted goldfish?

Got a great photo of one of my goldfish. He’s a baby Oranda.

One of my goldfish has Hemorrhagic Septicemia. Does anyone know of any treatments or cure that are successful? I’ve basically quarantined it and have been doing daily water changes. Is this contagious to the other goldfish in the main tank? Any suggestions help. Thanks!

They stayed still for 5 seconds!

Another one of my new babies. He’s a black moor but I’m in love with the golden pattern on his tummy. Thought it was super unique and will look amazing as an adult.

Goldfish Mouth is always completely open. What's wrong/is there anything I can do?

Posted: 19 Oct 2019 11:08 AM PDT

Hi, yesterday, I noticed that one of my goldfish's mouths have been open all the time. It's completely extended, and I've noticed that my goldfish seems to be pushing water through its gills very frequently, with a lot of effort. There isn't anything that should be able to be stuck in its mouth in the tank, there are some rocks, but are all roughly 2-3 inches in diameter. It usually stays in the corner, but randomly swims to opposite sides of the tank, fairly quickly. It has had trouble recently eating food pellets. I did a 50% water change two days ago and added some aquarium salt (put around 3/4 of the salt needed to completely salt my 50 gallon aquarium). Is there anything that can be done? Is it related to my water change? The two other fish in my tank appear to be unaffected.

here's a link to a picture of my fish's mouth completely extended. It was in a corner, so it was hard to get a good angle. https://imgur.com/a/oD0IzfL

Thanks for any help.

Mad at me for doing a water change.

The last of my 3 goldfish I got today. This is another Oranda. She’s got some beautiful markings on her. Photo has a filter to show her actual colours as they weren’t showing properly in photos.

There’s always ammonia in my tank water. Worried that it’ll affect my fish

Posted: 19 Oct 2019 03:36 AM PDT

I do a PWC every other day using my tap water, however, my tap water always has ammonia in it. 0.50ppm at most I'd say. I use prime and stability for my tank and I'm using an old filter alongside a new one and old decor to help with the cycle. I also use bottle bacteria. This morning when I work up for work, I noticed my two goldfish swimming around slowly, and kind of just floating with their fins moving. They're still swimming, just not as fast. It was 6am so I'm wondering if it's my water quality or if they're tired. I don't know what to do, I can't seem to get rid of ammonia! Unless I use bottled spring water, but to use it in a 40 gallon will be super pricey. Maybe I'll have to do that. My parameters are 0,0 and 0.25/0.50ppm ammonia. Please let me know if there's anything I can do?

What's your favorite sinking pellet for feral finned friends who don't understand floating pellets?

Black Moor with tiny holes in his top fin. New from the store and seems healthy otherwise. Very active. I think it might just be damage from the shop but want to check in with you guys.

Learned Goldfish Keepers ~ Seamore has been lopsided since I adopted him 2 mo ago, but seems to be getting worse. Only fed 2-3 pellets /day, with some random days skipped. Thoughts? Is my dude ok?

Is this normal goldfish behavior or should I be worried???

One goldfish doing “barrel rolls” occasionally?

Posted: 18 Oct 2019 03:45 PM PDT

Hello! So I've got 2 goldfish, one is rescued from a poor tank with not filter or water changes in months, and the other I bought as a buddy for this one. They are both in a 40 gallon, parameters are 0,0,0 as it's a new tank (fish in cycling using old filter + new one and old gravel/decor from previously established tank). I've never had goldfish before, but my golden one, the rescued one, sometimes turns around awkwardly. I have no way to describe it, but when it turns around at the bottom of the tank, it'll turn on its side and graze the glass until it's upright, and then swim properly. To me it just looks like he's turning around awkwardly, but I have no idea. My other goldfish does this too but not as often. They're best friends, eating just fine too! Swimming happily/normally and forage around the gravel all the time (using the gravel only to kick start the cycle, then I'm replacing it with sand). I use prime and stability in my water and do water changes every day. I've also used bottled bacteria in the filter. I'm just wondering if this is normal Goldie behaviour? They're wonky little guys so maybe it is? I don't know, if anyone can help that'd be great!

Cyanobacteria

Posted: 18 Oct 2019 08:51 AM PDT

Hello all. I've got a 75 with 3 fancies in it right now and I'm dealing with a breakout of cyanobacteria. Any worry for harm to the fish? I know that cyanobacteria put off oxygen so if anything they're adding to the dissolved oxygen, right?

How much pool filter sand will I need for a 40 gallon tank?

Planning on upgrading my tank to a 40 gallon and switching from gravel to sand. How much sand am I supposed to get? And does anyone have tips on how to properly wash it?
