Almost had a panic attack when I thought my 2.5 year old betta fish passed away

Posted: 22 Sep 2019 09:41 AM PDT

I've had my boy, Zeus for 2 and a half years in a 5 gallon tank. I try my best to change his water once a week, and vacuum once a month.. though life sometimes gets in the way.

I usually see him in the mornings and early evenings begging for food and fighting off snails, when I noticed it's been 2-3 days that I haven't seen him at all.

It's like he wakes up so early and hides away to "sleep" early too, like a grandpa.

I cleaned his tank last night, and found him lying down beside the heater... Eyes open, and looked like his gills were still moving but I thought: what if it's just the filter water current moving his gills?!

Panic and sadness ensues. I'm not ready.

The moment I petted him, is when he starts moving around. Phew.

My sister's friend had fish before and nonchalantly flush them away. I don't understand how some people can just flush their fish away in the toilet...

I dread the inevitable when I have to say goodbye to my Zeus.
