Another update. This is Hero who was quarantined due to suspected death. When the time came to let go, she showed a very faint sign of life! Today she is thriving and although much smaller than her siblings, she is by far the most active! Wish us luck for a long and healthy life for her.

Re-homing my axolotls - AUSTIN, TX and surrounding area

Is anyone here from Austin? I have four Axolotls that need a home. I'm getting out of the hobby as I'm increasingly neglecting my responsibilities in taking care of them. There will be a very small adoption fee for each of them.

I'm also gonna ask some questions to the person interested in adopting them.

Hi! My axolotl will be staying with a friend while I go away for a week, but his usual tank is too big to easily transport. I need some advice on a temporary tank that I can use just for that week.

Would he be okay with a tank that's smaller for a short stay, and what would the minimum size be?

Update: I’ve run a water test and the results were literally perfect and I suspect that he has cut himself and the white part is dead skin so I’m going to try to cool down the tank because it is a little too high right now and let him rest

An update on our twins. We picked Salt & Pepper. However poor Salt seemed to have passed today. Obviously hatchlings have a very low success rate so we know we have done everything we could. We wanna thank you all for your support with them and will continue to give you Pepper updates! See below!

Help? There’s this whiteish film on the top of my axolotl’s tank, I think it’s a protein film? .. even when I completely do a water change, clean all of his things in the tank and clean the filter I noticed this after I put a fan on his tank. Please don’t think I’m a bad axolotl mother :(

Hello, I plan on getting an axolotl around October-November. I have a 20 gallon tank, and plan on start cycling on Sunday, I have some live plants and a cave for my Axolotl. I believe I'll be getting a Juvenile from 3-5 inches As said in the title, I still have some questions, all help is appreciated!

  1. Are frozen Blood worms, Pellets, and night crawlers, viable food sources for a staple diet? Are there other alternatives? Just wondering, also is there a place I can purchase about 25 worms at a time? I don't want to have like 250 live earthworms in my room at all time.
  2. How many times should I feed a juvenile/Adult axolotl a day, I know the rule of thumb is about how many it can comfortably eat in 5 minutes. But I'm a but confused about how many times a day, some people say every other day, once or day or twice a day, I'm not sure.
  3. After the first cycle (before I put in the Axolotl), is it common to have to cycle the water again in the right conditions? (40-50% weekly water changes, roughly 60 degrees Fahrenheit, a filter and some live plants as well) I don't have another tank so I wouldn't be sure where to put my axolotl, so I would like to avoid having to cycle my tank often. I know it depends on the tank, but i want to know your experience. (I have a 20g)
