Beginners tip and advice

I do not currently own an axolotl, but I am very interested in getting one myself. I've been doing a lot of research on them and I'm feeling confident. I would just like some advice and tips that would be helpful for any beginner. Also, what brands would be best? I'm hoping I can buy everything on Amazon since I don't have a pet/fish store close to me. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

20 or 29 gallon tank? 29 is barely wider, mostly taller

So I'm looking at petco's $1/gallon aquarium sale (looking online while I'm at work, before they sell out) and I'm debating between 20 or 29 gallons. The 29 looks like it's only a little bigger footprint and most of the extra size is in height. I literally just got my axo Saturday so I'm not aware, will he mostly stick to the bottom area or would he enjoy the extra height?

Im got a 40 gallon breeder tank and am going to get a axolotl or 2. But I was wondering what hiding places and decor I could put. Ps:I know how to do the cycling and stuff also this is going to be a fully grown axolotl or 2.

Sudden change in gill color

I was out of town for ten days - did a 25% water change before I left and another as soon as I got back., and had someone coming to feed him every day or so. Now it's the next morning and I'm noticing that his gills are brown when they were dark pink before I left, should I be worried? Water parameters are normal.
