Advice healing a koi after a heron attacked it Posted: 02 Aug 2019 12:57 PM PDT Hello, we bought a house which came with a koi pond and 3 3yr old koi. When I arrived home yesterday and looked out the window, I saw a blue heron with the smallest koi (10") in its mouth. I opened the back door, it moved away about 6ft. I then decided to scare it hoping it would drop the koi and fly away. I went outside, it dropped the koi. I picked it up, observes no beak stab marks on the right side, didn't really look at the left side and put it back in the pond. Last evening while looking at it in the pond, I noticed that it seemed to have a wound on the left side. This morning, it is very sluggish, tilting to the side while on the bottom of the pond, and only moving if I gently poke it with the skimmer. I set up a heron defense system of stakes, fishing line and bells around the perimeter of the pond and I will be getting netting later today. I'm looking for advice regarding the health of the koi.
