Glad to know we are all crazy about our Little Lotls! Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:30 AM PDT I was worried it was just me. Watching my boy, wondering why he swims how he does, why his tail has dots, if he is eating enough, why he goes up for air, if his water flow is good, and a mass of other things. Everyone here is just as loving and nuts about their sweet boys and girls! Helped calm a new Axolotl Parent's nerves. [link] [comments]

When should I feed my axolotl every other day? Posted: 30 Jul 2019 02:40 AM PDT When I bought my axolotl, the man who sold it to me said when it gets to an adult, you should feed it every other day. He never told me what age makes them an adult so I googled it, the search said they're an adult after 1 year old. But my axolotl is now 8 months old and started eating less. So, what age should I feed him every other day? [link] [comments]

New to Axolotl care. Finally ready, and bringing a couple babies home this week. Posted: 29 Jul 2019 06:28 PM PDT First of all, I am aware that more than one is for the owners pleasure, not theirs. If you wanna fill me in or tell me your stories on that, I'm all ears. My boyfriend and I were only going to get one but, it's going to be quite the adventure (to get them) so, two makes sense for the "work". I've been in touch with a Breeder on and off all weekend. I'm proud to say she called me knowledgeable. I was going to get one a few years ago but, didn't feel ready. So, I've made sure to read up, and be ready. That doesn't mean I have any less questions. Repeat info is just as good because then I know it's right. I'll take what ya can give me. Thanks in advance. Bear with me; Conditioner; do I half what the back says? I was at the pet store today, and it said two teaspoons. That's for fish, right? Moss balls, or anything similar, obviously large; yay or nay? Did I misread, is there a "soil" they can be in or around? In regards to making a living tank for them (in the future). I've read about tying down plants, floating plants, and sandy plants (also probably tied down). What am I missing? Oh, thoughts on moss floor or a wall? Note: I'm most likely going to stick to the sand Breeder recommended. Especially for right now. What shouldn't go in the tank? I don't want to go over board or buy the wrong thing. I know smooth or "soft" objects are best. They've got soft skin. Are there brands or a certain category I should avoid? I think I know what I want for equipment but, I'd love to hear what the experts are using. From filters to pumps. Whatever you wanna share, yo. I'd love to know if there's a thermometer I could use on my phone too. Mostly because I've got bad eyes and those underwater ones can get hard to read. My boyfriend is eyeing up an electronic scrubber so, we don't have to always empty the tank of everything. Which would make my monthly cleanings I wanted easier. I know about the weekly ones. I just want my lil creatures to be happy so, I'll do what I can to keep em, and their home clean. Which leads me to the next thing; feeding. I plan on taking the time and giving them their nibbles. Specially as they're still young. But, for the most part, especially then, I want to have them out, and in their own lil eating pool. There's lil suction cup troughs and lil buoy feeders. I wouldn't always use them but, I thought they (or one) may be a good investment. Oh! My boyfriend said, he read someone just gave their axolotl earth worms. I had read that it was ok. Sure but, should it be their dinner every day? If you think of something, let it spill. I've reached a wall in my questioning. I'm sure there's more but, I can't think right now. Maybe tank sizes? I think I have a 40 gal shallow tank tucked away. Is that too big (even) for two? I guess I'll stop rambling on and let you answer. Thank you for your time! I'd also accept pictures of your enclosures to get some ideas. 😁 thanks! Enjoy your week. 😊 Edit: I forgot my boyfriend was curious about their water. We're nervous, even with conditioner, our tap is too "yucky" for them. (I can't remember what word he used) He mentioned maybe just get them some distilled. Again, would love to hear your thoughts on the topic. [link] [comments] |
