question about breeding and growing neocaridina species faster Posted: 15 Jun 2019 04:40 PM PDT so i'm having no issues breeding my cherry shrimp other than wanting them to grow as big and as fast as possible. they've been breeding for months in my ten gallon and five gallon tanks which also contain fish. i finally set up a tank specifically for shrimp because the populations in the fish tanks were getting ridiculous and i just had to clear some out. i've spoken with a local pet store and they said they'd be interested in buying some from me but it would have to be a couple of months from now just because of the way they're currently stocked and had planned their next shipment. they said they'd take upwards of sixty if i could handle that. right now i would say i'm basically there but a lot of my shrimp are juveniles and i'd like to see them grow. it's not like i'm under pressure and desperately need these shrimp to grow, i'd just like, for my own sake, to learn how to do this as best i can. my set-up is a ten gallon tank with a large sponge filter. besides my fish tanks, i was keeping a few colonies of shrimp in three 1.5 gallon jars with duckweed, java moss and various plant clippings i didn't want to throw away. these jars also have a thin layer of aquasoil at the bottom that i'm sure is teeming with good bacteria since they've been established for months and i've never disturbed the substrate. everything from these jars is now in my new setup. the parameters of the tank are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and around 5ppm nitrate. also it's heated but i don't have a thermometer in there yet. if i know anything about heaters, it's probably just above room temperature in there. i've heard increasing the heat can speed up shrimp metabolism and it's one thing i'm considering in trying to grow them faster. so far things have gone pretty well for me and my shrimp when i basically do almost nothing. this is far from the advice i see online. a lot of people seem to recommend daily water changes and siphoning the substrate of waste. this is the polar opposite of what i've been doing. i hardly ever change the water, just top it up all the time and i never ever disturb the substrate. are there other ways to speed things up that i don't know about which are more congruent with my own methods? thanks for reading all this even if you have no comment :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jun 2019 06:57 PM PDT In need help on this. I have 2 rcs in my jar and a java fern, java moss, moss ball, and a crypt. I plan to do wc every few days and top offs. Do I need a heater or just a lamp that produces heat. What about in the winter? I live in north Dakota and it gets very cold in house sometimes. (62-70) it is one pint. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jun 2019 02:07 PM PDT I am a first time shrimp keeper, and I just came here to say holy tap dancing Christ, I was not prepared for how effective of a cleaning squad Amanos have proven to be. 10 gal high tech, did a dry start, really took my time setting things up, and brought in the shrimp about 5 weeks after flooding when the algae really started to get going. They had the whole tank picked clean within 3 days, and it's now more clean than any tank I have ever owned. So completely impressed. [link] [comments]

Anyone used seachem clarity with shrimp? Posted: 15 Jun 2019 04:10 PM PDT my established tank has a bacterial bloom and I cant do a gravel vac because of my carpet. Ive been reading mixed reviews about seachem's clarity and how some fish deaths could be caused by it. Has anyone tried using it in a shrimp tank yet? any success? [link] [comments]
