Does anyone else’s betta play in the water current?

I caught my dude riding the water current from his filter the other day! He was swimming really close to the filter "box" right on the surface and then would get under the gentle waterfall part and WHOOSH down and forward a few inches. At first I thought it was inconvenient for him, and then he spent almost five minutes going back and forth in the same spot.

This fish has the most playful personality, he's never flared once. My boyfriend thinks it is almost creepy how he just watches us when we're sitting on the couch near his tank.
