What to put into the tank.

Posted: 07 Jun 2019 07:01 AM PDT

Hello! So we rescued Axolotl Rose a few days ago. Due to the nature of the rescue we are woefully under prepared for an axolotl. We have a 4ft tank and I've put in a filter with minimal outflow and some decorations just so it isn't bare in there but we want to make it more homely for her.

I'm hoping to add sand to the bottom and get a cave/pit for her to hide in but we'd also like to add some plants and whatnot. I would appreciate any help and advice. We have no idea how old she is and if she will live long as she was in poor conditions when we rescued her but we just want her environment to be as nice as possible for her.

Axolotl not eating

Posted: 07 Jun 2019 12:50 AM PDT

I've had my axie for a year now. For the first 3 months I was feeding him bloodworms, then switched to earthworms with no issues. Today I tried feeding him like usual, but instead he keeps spitting the worm back up. Sometimes he'll get it almost all the way down, but then let's it right back out. He did this 4-5 times, including finding the food on his own a few times rather than me wiggling it in front of him. I waited a few hours and tried again and he snatched it but immediately spit it out. What alarmed me this time was after he let it go he looked like he was trying to suck food in (big open mouth) a few times before he settled back down, again showing no interest in the worm. Does anyone know what's going on?

Odd debris at the bottom of the tank. Any idea what it is and where it keeps coming from?

Can axolotls be mentally disabled?

Posted: 06 Jun 2019 04:28 PM PDT

This could be a stupid question, but can axolotls can mentally disabled? I got a new axolotl so my Ichabod can have a friend, but the new one is probably literally 5x (at least) mentally faster than Ichabod. It can take about 30 minutes to feed him whereas my new axolotl just eats the pellets while they're floating down.

Took her out of the fridge for a minute to feed her. Are these veins springing up more harshly a cause for concern?
