Aquatic Koi Koi floating butt-side up

Koi floating butt-side up

Hello people,

So visiting my father and his koi pond, we've noticed one of the mid sized koi swimming oddly.

The part of the koi from the belly to around its second bottom-fin is inflated and since it swims with the tail side upwards in roughly 30 to 45 degrees.

This had happened before to some large goldfish in the same pond years ago and my father has pretty much written the fish off. Any ideas what could be amis and, if so, how we could remedy the situation.

Thanks in advance

Koi hiding in algae

Posted: 08 Jun 2019 07:13 AM PDT

I have inhereted a koi pond with a house sale and this is my first season (started in the winter).

Detail:

2000 gallon pond.

3x3 meter about 5 feet deep with 2 shallower 2 feet deep and wide margins.

KockneyKoi 4000, 4 chamber filter and a AquaMax10000 pump with a 32mm pipe

55watt bulb UV filter.

Water is more or less crystal clear most of the time. I have string algae grow on the edges about a foot thick.

I have 5 koi, about 40-50cm in length, 1 6inch koi and 5 mirror carp 6-8inch in length.

I feed them 1 to 2 hands of sinking pellet a day and make sure it is gone before I feed them again

Last week or 2 the koi started to bury themselves in the algae in the margin. Like they are chilling covered up. This morning they all had dug themselves in the stuff and it looked like I had no fish at all in the pond!

Is this normal behaviour? I wondered if they had spawned and sniffing out the eggs or something. No idea!

I would appreciate some advise.

I have ordered a test kit to test the water quality. So no idea about pH levels etc.

How do I clean Koi poop and other sludge from pond?

Posted: 08 Jun 2019 08:55 AM PDT

I've noticed sludge and poop at the bottom of my pond. I have used the net to clean some but it's not enough. I am just wondering how to clean this? Also when I run the waterfall some dirt rises up and blocks the visibility of the pond.
