Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Similar Fish to a Neon Dottyback

Posted: 24 May 2019 11:18 PM PDT

As the title says, I'm looking for a fish similar to a neon dottyback that would do ok in my 10 gallon IM Fusion. I really like how the ones I've seen dip in and out of the rock work and other caves but don't want to deal with the aggression that they so often have. Is there anything similar out there?

Bought a yasha goby only 32 bucks, aklimated and floated, quickly went into rock and almost got stuck, wondering should it still be okay, water quality isn't a concern. Just want it to be okay, my lfs almost never gets em in, and this guy was hiding almost 3 weeks, they thought it had been sold.

I'm getting back into the hobby after 20 year hiatus. Much has changed and much has stayed the same. I'm looking for some guidance on the following things:

Ideal temperature range Ideal salinity range Critical tests and frequency Fine tuning tests for coral growth Frequency and % water changes What else am I not thinking of?

Are there any livestock restrictions related to using a coarse, 'Hawaiian Black' live sand?

Posted: 24 May 2019 06:59 AM PDT

I understand livestock will be limited based on the size of your tank, the type of substrate you use, the thickness of the bed, other filtration mechanisms, etc.

But are all of the commercially-available live sands the same? That is, are there any fish that won't take-to or appreciate Hawaiian Black live gravel/sand.

For example, gobies and blennies that scoot around in/on the sand. Is it all the same to them?

I've been pretty patient with this new setup over the last four months. I like the look. But now that I'm starting to think about livestock, I'm wondering if I made a mistake using it(?)

Thanks for any advice.

maroon clownfish the dorsal fin damaged

Posted: 24 May 2019 02:45 PM PDT

Hi!

I have a maroon clownfish with the dorsal fin damaged. I wonder if you have any advice in order to threat this problem. The clownfish is actually in a breeder net and it's eating pellets but i'm worried. I don't know if it has something to do with a parasite or bacteria. I did a few days ago a freshwater dip and dissolve some metronidazole in the tank.

My tank parameters are:

Temp: 77°F

Specific Gravity: 1.024

Nitrite ppm: 0

Nitrate: 10

Ammonia: 0

Phospate ppm: .2

PH: 8.2

Thank you and have a great day.
