Finally solved a problem that's been driving me insane!

Posted: 19 May 2019 09:12 PM PDT

I just solved a problem that's been causing me to lose sleep (literally) for the past 3 months, and I wanted to share since it's pretty unusual.

The problem I've been having is my ATO randomly overfilling at night which is incredibly frustrating because it wakes me up several times a week. It's very odd because it's never happened during the day. Sometimes I'll wake up to the ATO running for an extended period of time, and I'll anxiously inspect the tank and plumbing for leaks, but I find nothing.

I've spent hours checking my tank, plumbing, return pump, overflow box, etc. for something that could be causing this problem. I've contacted Tunze several times and tested my ATO to confirm it's functioning properly. This problem has left me completely dumbfounded until tonight....

It turns out my clownfish has figured out how to sleep up against the overflow box, but he only does it for short periods of time. When he does this it drastically decreases flow to the sump which causes the return chamber to drop. The ATO will then kick in to compensate, and once the clown moves, the overflow becomes unblocked and the sump levels rises to trigger the alarm.

Here's a picture of the little bastard caught in the act:

TL:DR I've been losing sleep because my clownfish has been indirectly triggering my ATO alarm at night for the past 3 months.

FREE CORAL - Chicago

Posted: 19 May 2019 02:07 PM PDT

I am moving out of my apartment and unfortunately have to break down my tank this week. I would love for my corals to go to a good home.

I've had the tank for two years. As you can see in the link, there are a variety of LPS/SPS. Some are from local shops and a number are designer (Jason Fox LPS and Battlecorals SPS). Would anyone in Chicago like to take some of these off my hands? Please comment or DM me. I am in the Lincoln Park area.

There are also two paired clownfish that need to go. The female is a designer (Frostbite) and the male is a typical clown.

My super duper old tablet bit the dust, and I'm looking to replace it. Just curious what others are using these days.

Question about long-spine urchin

Posted: 19 May 2019 05:03 PM PDT

I was given a long-spine urchin from a friend who got it from another friend. Supposedly it ate some zoas a long while back. Anyone ever have any experience with them? I've always wanted one but i wonder if it'll munch on other corals.
