I've Been Fished

Posted: 14 May 2019 11:33 AM PDT

Updated: I decided to follow the advice of some of you and give the fish to a trusted co-worker who has a nice set-up for it. I was disheartened to hear several other teachers got fish, too, and didn't know what to do with them. I am so glad I found a home for mine but wish people would think more about giving pets as first. Anyway, thank you for all your advice!

Hello all,

I am a high school teacher, and my graduating seniors thought it'd be a good idea to prank me by running into one of my classes and leaving me a goldfish. They love to do stuff like this, and they think it's a fun way to roast their favorite teachers, but I am an animal lover and hate the thought of others dumping these guys because it was an unexpected gift.

Anyway, I read how to care for goldfish online, and I was wondering if you guys have links to tanks/supplies or whatever I can put this guy in so he can have a good life. I wasn't expecting to spend this money (another thing that annoys me about this prank), so any thrifty ideas would be great.

Thank you!

I’ve got an AquaClear 50 and an AquaClear 70 running on two different sides of a 55 gallon. Is that enough filtration?

Huge outdoor pond and handful of fish with dropsy

Posted: 14 May 2019 06:45 AM PDT

I have an enormous outdoor pond, we started with 7 goldfish which have bred and bred and now we have loads of them, I don't feed or maintain the outdoor pond so rarely see them properly but as the weather has been nice I've sat by the pond.

Yesterday 5/6 fish who are bloated with their scales pine coning which I suspect is dropsy, my stepdad had told me a few fish have died recently so we're trying to work out what could be causing this.

I've check the water parameters and they look perfect and they're not over fed.

We just need help working out what's causing this and if there's anything we can/should do.

Would be really grateful to get any advice

Thank you in advance
