Moving with axolotl

Posted: 23 May 2019 10:04 AM PDT

I'm going to be moving with my axolotl soon. It's going to be about 8 hours of travel. If I keep my axie (I only have one) in a five gallon bucket for that time will he be okay? Should I oxygenate the water manually ever few hours or will that cause him too much stress?

New axolotl home

Hi everyone!! I'm planning on getting an axolotl tomorrow and I had some last minute questions!! (Though, if more questions/concerns come up, I may have to delay getting him) (Also sorry for poor formatting, I'm on mobile!)

First; I've read up about whether or not loose substrate is safe or not, what's everyone's experiences with sand vs no sand?

Second, are TopFin and other aquarium "quick starts" (biological boosters as well) safe to use with an axolotl? I love using those products with my fish, and I trust the brand's dechlorinator.

Lastly! Do axolotls need aeration in their tank? I know they like nearly-still water, but I don't want the O2 levels to drop. Unless that isn't a concern with them? I'm so excited to finally get my dream pet and I just want to make sure everything is perfect for when he comes home!

Floating Rear Legs

Posted: 22 May 2019 04:13 PM PDT

Hey guys, my girlfriend and I are new axolotl owners. We have a young one, and she has really been enjoying her new tank. She has treated water, sand bottom, and water of the proper temperature. We feed her almost every day (she is still small, 4 inches), and we give her bloodworms and shrimp pellets.

Today we noticed that her rear legs are floating behind her, and we are very, very worried. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong with her? Info is really scarce online. We are horrified that she might end up really sick or even dead. Any help or advice is appreciated!

how much to feed a juvenile axolotl?

Posted: 22 May 2019 03:08 PM PDT

Ive been feeding my juvenile axolotl 1 small nightcrawler, as he is big enough to eat them whole now. However, yesterday and today when I was spot cleaning he tried to bite the Turkey baster I use to suction up his poo. Does this mean he's still hungry? I know axies aren't the brightest, but I just wanna make sure I'm feeding him enough!

No Power

Posted: 22 May 2019 12:13 PM PDT

I just lost power in my house. I don't know how long it will take to get fixed so I'm worried about bacteria on the filter media dying or an ammonia spike happening. What should I do for my Axolotl until while the power is out?
