| Is flourite sand too big of a grain size for an axolotl tank? Posted: 13 May 2019 09:43 AM PDT I'm going to be setting up an axolotl tank sometime within the next month, and I'm trying to figure out the plant situation. I want to use substrate for plants, rather than just regular sand, and wanted to know if the flourite black sand was fine enough for an axolotl tank. For those of you with planted tanks, what substrate do you use? [link] [comments] | ||

| Axolotl Sits Vertically (on his tail) Posted: 13 May 2019 08:07 AM PDT One of my smaller boys likes to float kind of vertically and rest on his tail (like tigger) and he does this a lot. We just did a water change yesterday and Kirby was added back when we found out she is actually a he but they seem to get a long and both have plenty of space and hides. Is this a behavior I need to be worried about or is this pretty much normal axol derp? [link] [comments] | ||
| Help! What to feed during vacation Posted: 13 May 2019 07:43 AM PDT Hello! I am fairly new to axolotls, but my 2 are growing so fast! I will be going on vacation for 6 days in about a month and was wondering what to feed during the duration. I have read that white cloud minnows are good. I bought a bunch, but can't seem to keep them alive long enough to quarantine them. I also read that feeder guppies work too, but I can't find any of those sold locally. Would going without food for 6 days be horrible? [link] [comments] | ||
| Question about feeding a juvenile Posted: 13 May 2019 07:35 AM PDT Hi there, I'm a first-time owner who got mistakenly shipped a juvenile axolotl (about ten weeks old). So far I think I've been doing alright taking care of him but I'm struggling a bit with feeding time. I'm feeding him pieces of frozen bloodworm capsules but I'm not sure which is the better way to introduce it to his bowl. Option 1 was to drop the small frozen piece directly in his bowl and let it melt there. I saw him swim up and bite it immediately and then swim away quickly, probably shocked by the cold. Option 2 was to defrost the worms in a bit of his tank water and then pour it back in. This made the worms blow around everywhere in his bowl and it seemed to really scare him. If there's a better way that I haven't figured out, please let me know. I'm trying to do my best for this little guy. [link] [comments] | ||

| Axolotl hasn’t eaten in 2 days! Help! Posted: 12 May 2019 05:35 PM PDT My axolotl has not eaten in two days. On Friday, my parents drove her tank up 6 hours to my new apartment so I figured it was just stress, but they ate that night but not since. They usually eat one bloodworm cube a night. It can't be ammonia or nitrate because we replaced the water when we set up the tank, which is a 10 gallon tank they have by themselves. They are about 1 year and 3-4 months old, I've had them since last March when they were still little. I'm assuming it could just be constipation from the stress but I'm starting to get worried because they have no interest in the food and have moved around a lot less than usual. Please help!
