Question: Weird material in tank

Water hardness + alkalinity

This might sound like a bit of a novice question, but I just want to make sure my levels are right. I'm not worried about pH, nitrate or nitrite levels, but what's an acceptable water hardness and alkalinity level?

Is it safe to give feeding worms coffee grounds

Posted: 10 May 2019 11:33 AM PDT

I want to get my own nightcrawlers from the backyard. I don't know how safe it is to use wild worms first of all. The main question is coffee grounds attravt the worms so would they be safe for my axolotls to consume still or would there be caffeine in the worms that might harm them?

DIY water chillers? Need some help..

Posted: 10 May 2019 12:12 PM PDT

So my axolotls had babies and they are rapidly outgrowing the 2 20gal tanks they're in. I have a large 40 gallon long tank in my garage (it's a reptile tank so lots of floor space). Problem is that I live in florida.. the water stays at around 80 and I've been trying to cool it but only have been met with failure. Currently I have an aquatop power head pumping water into 50ft of 3/8" ID (1/2" OD) poly tubing which goes into a small minifridge. 20ft of tubing is tightly wound and sitting in a 1gal Tupperware in the freezer shelf. The flow is pretty slow so water stays inside the fridge for a bit but water temp hasn't changed much. The fridge is on its max setting but doesn't seem to get powerful enough. Any tips on cooling it further? Axolotls cant survive in 80° water can they?
