Does anyone feel really proud of their shrimp when you see a successful moult?

I feel like moulting is a stressful and dangerous period for shrimps, so when I see that they've done it successfully I feel relieved and proud of them. 😄

Berried tiger shrimp

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 11:57 PM PDT

For months I had some (4-5) very large tiger shrimp and I always suspected they were all females since never got berried. After buying some green babaulti, and since the breeder keeps them together with tigers, I think he netted a tiny male tiger by mistake (I buy shrimp through my local fish store and don't have control over what I get). Yesterday I saw one of the largest tigers berried.

Is it normal for tigers to get this large and have this many eggs? If it wasn't for the stripes I would say it looks like an amano.

Owning shrimp makes eating shrimp very uncomfortable

I ordered shrimp yesterday and bit one before I was kind of uncomfortable with myself. Shrimps are valuable cuties with personalities and colors.

Starting out, have some questions

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 01:06 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I have a couple questions, as I want to get into keeping shrimp but I'm not sure where to start. I've always liked talking to people who have experience rather than just going solely off of random articles (but trust me, I look at plenty of those just to be safe!) so I have a couple questions for you guys.

I have this old 2.5 gallon tank that I used to have a betta in. I have him in a more appropriate 10gal I found, so I don't use the 2.5 anymore. 2.5 is too small for anything else, but would I be able to put a couple shrimp in it, or would I need something bigger? If I can keep shrimp in the 2.5 gal, how many could I keep?

What shrimp would you recommend a beginner should get?

Can I use a sponge filter, or do I have to use a more conventional hang-on-back filter? I plan on getting a bigger sponge filter for my betta, so I would like to use the old one on the shrimps. Would that be okay, or should I get a brand new one?

What plants do shrimp like the best, and is dirt substrate okay, or is sand more appropriate? I have a bunch of dirt substrate left over, so can I just use that?

Should I use a gravel siphon for water changes, or just use cups? I wouldn't want to scare or upset any shrimp by shoving a big siphon all over :(

Am I going to have to worry about breeding, or can I prevent that from happening somehow? I'm way too nervous to take care of any baby shrimps! I don't want to mess anything up. If I do end up getting baby shrimps, what do I do with them?

Sorry if these are pretty obvious or stupid questions, I've always been very sensitive about keeping animals and I just want to make sure I'm doing the best for any shrimp I get in the future, if I do :) I also know about cycling and all that, and I'm assuming it's the same with shrimp as it is with fish as far as cycling and water conditioning goes.

Thank you guys!

Sponge filter help! (Bubble power.)

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 04:02 PM PDT

Hello! I have a small 5 gallon yellow shrimp tank and ever since I set up the sponge filter the questions been nagging at me. How strong/fast should the bubbles be coming outta this thing? (I have a drip connector to control how fast the bubs come.) Is there any rule of thumb here? Best way to ensure good filtration for my golden striped pals? Thanks!

Brackish shrimp?

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 11:44 AM PDT

I'm looking to start a brackish water aquarium and I was wondering what shrimp species might go well in it? I'm trying to make an invertebrate tank.
