Goldfish rubbed wen raw on sand, now it’s turned black on both sides. Not sure if anyone else has seen this? Been treating with melafix for fin rot for a week. Just did 40% water change.

Dropsy treatment for oranda?

Posted: 02 Apr 2019 10:10 PM PDT

My precious Oranda developed signs of dropsy today, I noticed he was maybe a little bloated this morning but not alarmingly so, but when I came home from work I noticed a significant change in his appearance (more bloated, scales raised). He's still very active, and I moved him into a 10 gallon tank by himself with 10 tsp of aquarium salt and a heater. No other fish are showing any signs of distress which is leading me to think he may have some kind of internal complication..I'm planning to go to the store as soon as it opens to get him antibiotics, any other recommendations? I'm absolutely heartbroken and will do anything to save him Thank you!

I recently upgraded to a 75 gallon tank with 7 goldfish I already have, but am looking for some more rare/larger fish to add. Any suggestions for places to find these lovelies near Gilbert, Arizona?

Red Streaks Update - Please Help!

Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:58 PM PDT

Hi all,

I made a post a few months ago in regards to one of my fish having red streaks on his tail.

I was having a problem with my pH, it was at about 6.0-6.5 when I noticed the red streaks. It took me about two weeks to fix that issue and get it stable at 7.6.

My ammonia is always at 0ppm, my nitrites are 0ppm. Over the last week I've been doing water changes everyday to keep nitrates as close to 0ppm as possible - they're never over 10ppm.

They still aren't clearing up. I'm really stressing out and I feel very unsure.

People have suggested that it's septicimia, but he has no red marks on his body, and no weird bumps. His gills aren't red or pink, they're the same colour as the rest of his head. He's just as active as he always has been (which is moderately active - he sleeps more than the other fish but is pretty active for 10+ hours per day), and he still has a big appetite.

I don't know what to do at this point. I've heard melafix is just "snake oil" and could possibly make things worse so I'm very afraid of trying medications. There are no vets nearby that treat fish.

What should I do?
