Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:12 AM PDT This might be a stupid question but I heard that certain colours are more liable to get ill. I'm setting up a 40g breeder and plan to get a pair of fantails, and I'm really looking to pick out some unique ones. I'm most interested in red and white ones, or calicos that are mostly orange and black. There is a baby fantail at my LFS right now who's white with a red face, one white eye, and one black eye. I just have so many questions since discovering this sub! Posted: 11 Apr 2019 06:49 PM PDT Would having a 1 to 1 male to female ratio stress out the female like with guppies? If I know I'm not going to try breeding just yet, would having a male with a female as tank mates stress the female out? Should I just keep with the same sex for now so that they'll have company without the stress? [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Apr 2019 02:35 PM PDT Ok, so over a month ago I joined this sub and realised I was doing harm to my fish in the tank I had them living in. Since then I have upgraded to a larger tank for them. https://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/72-litre/ So, the main reason I bought this tank was because it came with an air and water filter. However I cannot figure out how to get the aeration to work on it. I'm pretty sure everything is in place. The water filter works perfectly. This clear house came with it but just seems to float aimlessly as seen in this photo. https://i.imgur.com/9gxm0Ou.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Gcw7brI.jpg Any suggestion. Complete Newbie here. Posted: 11 Apr 2019 01:36 PM PDT Nitrate: 0 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 pH: 7.4 Parameters seem to be normal but idk why my fish is gulping at the surface. He usually does this to beg but it seems to be occurring more frequently than usual. [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Apr 2019 01:22 PM PDT Hi all. I have a 55gal goldfish tank with one ranchu and one butterfly. PH has been a struggle for me. It is very high, and the ph in my tank is around an 8, give or take. I have been fighting this issue for awhile now. I have peat moss in my filter, have lowered the air flow from my air pump, and have upgraded to a Sun Sun canister filter today. I was using a hanging outside filter that came with the tank. I have a big chunk of driftwood I could put in too but I haven't because I don't want them to hurt themselves, it is very pokey driftwood. My current perimeters are Ph: 7.6 (It is always better after a water change- it will be back to 8) A: 0 N2: 0 N3: 0 Before the water change and instillation of the filter, the water was the same aside from a smudge more ammonia and high ph. My ranchu has been acting very lethargic. He stays near the top most the time, simply floating there. He will move if stimulated, and will change corners every now and again. He also has not eaten for over a day now. He showed no interest in food yesterday, and a little interest in food after the water change, but he spat it back out. His slime coat also seems weird to me, and is the main reason I'm posting here. It seems. 'loose' or... I'm not sure. Whispy? I will attach photos. (Please ignore the cat fur floating on the surface- it clings to my siphon hose and ends up in the tank) I have been trying to help him feel better. I realize this is probably an issue due to the prolonged exposure to high ph. I am hoping my better filter will help, and am now planning on saving up for an RO system. The butterfly has been its normal wiggly self, and has been eating fine. Any insight, advice or help would be deeply appreciated. This is a beautiful fish and I want to see him grow up strong http://imgur.com/gallery/d7QNebD http://imgur.com/gallery/b4IIOpY http://imgur.com/gallery/o02wGBu [link] [comments] |
