| When do red claw crayfish develop the red claw? Posted: 09 Apr 2019 08:18 AM PDT Hi folks! I'm new the the group... I'm raising crayfish for an aquaponics system, specifically "Giant Australian Red Claws". My first batch of craylings is coming along nicely, especially when you consider that I was completely unprepared for them, and it's not going to be much longer (one or two months) before they are large enough where I feel confident that putting them in with adults will not result in their becoming dinner. Buuuuut.... these yabbies breed pretty easily, and I want to keep them separated by gender. With red-claws, the most obvious form of sexual dimorphism is that the males have the red patch on their claws that gives them their name. Can anyone tell me if that's a "from the beginning" type thing or if that is something that kicks in with the crayfish equivalent of puberty? [link] [comments]  |
