Lesson learned-cherry shrimp are expensive treats

I've had my gentle giant Shy Guy for about a year now, he's the chillest betta i've ever had. He had been in a 20 gallon long community tank with neon and ember tetras since i first bought him with no incidents, just chilled out with them, stole their food sometimes, just overall a real sweet fish.

I recently had to move and i had to rehome my community but i kept Shy Guy, i set him up in a sweet 10 gallon planted bachelor pad with a nitrite snail and a few ghost shrimp as a cleaning crew.

Here's where my opinion of Shy Guy changes: I was at my LFS and saw they had cherry shrimp for sale which is cool because my LFS in my previous town only sold ghost shrimp. Naturally i decide to buy a few thinking theyll be a great addition to my tank.

You know where this is going.

Ok, Shy Guy has never bothered any of the ghost shrimp nor flared at the snail, in fact, for a while i didnt think he could flare until i caught him fighting his reflection one day. Those poor shrimp had no chance.

As soon as i dropped them in after acclimating them for half an hour Shy Guy tore into the first one he saw with an unbridled fury i dont think i have seen in beast nor man. It was horrifying seeing my sweet fish turn into a murder machine before my very eyes. Those he only evidence of his massacre the 2 shrimp whiskers sticking out of his mouth.

After being dumbfounded by the savage deeds of my Shy Guy i was left with only one thought: those where expensive treats little dude.

Im thinking of changing his name to Murder Guy.

tldr: my super easy going betta decides that cherry shrimp are food not friends
