What's wrong with my axolotls?

Posted: 23 Apr 2019 07:27 AM PDT

What's wrong with my axolotls?

I am relatively new to keeping axolotls. When I transferred my axolotls to a new tank kept at around 20˚C (68˚F), something happened to their tails in a span of 3 days so far.

The white axolotl's wound is more severe than my black axolotl's. For my white axolotl the first day it looks like an injury, but in day 2 and 3 it starts to spread as seen in these photos (the pics are chronological). For the black one there's this furry dot on the tip of its tail. My white axie is much more active than the black one.

Is this some kind of infection or just a wound? How do I go about treating them? Thank you so much! ;__;

How long can a lotl live in a 15 gallon?

Posted: 23 Apr 2019 08:45 AM PDT

Want to get one, but apartment wont let me have a tank 20 or more. I don't plan to live their forever, but how long could I keep one in a 15 gallon (with good water changes and plants)? Can they be kept in one forever with intense care?

Note: By "how long" I mean how old, not "how long fully grown can I shove them in"

My professor brought baby axolotls to class to help teach about how fertilizer runoff and soil loss affect their habitat! They are all so tiny! [OC]

is this quartz sand lotl safe?

https://i.redd.it/iidgjlm1r0u21.jpg

im looking for some sand or things for the lotl to have a floor other than the fishtank one, its looking quite empty, and the only quartz sand i found, is like this, looks a bit rough and im worried it might be unsafe for the lotls?

mine is barely 6cm big so i will wait for it to grow bigger before getting this, but i just want to make sure its lotl safe

Pool filter sand?

Posted: 23 Apr 2019 08:54 AM PDT

Does anyone have experience using pool filter sand in their aquarium and have any pros or cons they could give me? I have seen people say they use it and amazon sells it pretty cheap but I just want to know if it's safe, and if other people would recommend it over a sand by Caribsea or over something such as fluval stratum.
