Hey all,

My pond is 2 years old but is stocked with Shubunkins and Orfe. I went to the store to get some supplies and saw these cute small koi for 25€, it just said Japanese koi. I picked one out that looked cute. I wonder what sort it is and if I wasted my money, would like to get another one, but don't want to spent alot, so wondering if I could buy another one or if I should pay a bit more for a better specimen?

Picture, sorry it's not the best.

Urgent help needed! I didn’t realize I had a koi pond, don’t want him to die!

My SO and I bought and moved into a new house in January. The previous owner obviously spent a lot of time on the garden/landscaping, and having only ever lived in tiny apartments, I've had a hard time keeping up. But I'm trying to continue the legacy and maintain all her hard work! With zero clue. Anyway.

I noticed what looked like a little decorative pond when we moved in, but hadn't done anything to it yet.

Well just today I was clearing up some of the old dead plants around the edge when I heard a fasplash!!! and saw a flash of white and orange.

Sure enough, in this green cesspool of a pond, there is a little fish (who I named Koiyle) peeking out from behind some plants.

I am kind of freaking out right now because I had NO IDEA that there was this beautiful fish depending on me to take care of it. So I've done absolutely nothing and the pond is really disgusting. I had some fish food on hand and he gobbled it right up.

I am obviously going to start researching koi pond care but I'm afraid he won't survive long in those conditions. There is a big, black plastic thing in the middle of the pond that kinda looks like a net? When I tug there's a lot of resistance so I left it alone for now.

Do I need to evacuate Koiyle? Or can he stay put while I figure out what to do to clean up?

I really can't spend a lot of money on this endeavor but I feel responsible for making sure Koiyle makes it.

I hope it's ok to post this here because I know I've done zero research, but I didn't ask for this damn koi pond! And so far I've had trouble finding a source for reviving a gross pond with a koi still in it.

Thank you!
