[Discussion] African Cichlids - Share your experience, tips, or tricks

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:27 AM PDT

Ive had my tank for about a year now. I started off initially wanting an Mbuna exclusive tank, but Im slowly drifting into a mish mash of cichlids.

How do our tanks all look? Haps only? Peacocks only? Mbuna only? Mix of the 2 or 3? Full stock list? Tank size? Food? Whatever?

Im hoping this could be a relaxed discussion where we help each other out. I think it's ok point out errors, but I also know that perfection can stifle discussion, so I'd prefer we offer constructive criticism and not just "Don't mix Mbuna with anything else" and that's it.

Seeding filter media in established tank

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:10 AM PDT

Quick question - does anyone know how long it takes to seed new filter media in an established and cycled tank? I can see that brown sort of "gunk" stuff starting to appear on them.

Fish swimming corkscrews... temporarily?

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:07 AM PDT

Hello reddit. So my tank has been established and running for a few weeks now, and one of my minnows has started exhibiting a strange behavior. For the last couple mornings, I wake up to this particular fish swimming corkscrews around the tank. I turn the tank light on and he quits about 15 minutes later. Any idea what could be causing this? Bladder disease? Is he just a goober? The minnows originated from a bait shop so they were not very healthy to begin with, but have shown steady improvement otherwise.
