Just a couple of questions

Posted: 20 Mar 2019 07:50 PM PDT

  1. Currently cycling my tank with treated tap water, can I do a 100% water change if I wanna switch to RO water after it's finished cycling?

  2. Can I add more fluval stratum after it's finished cycling? I want to create a higher background.

Basically what I'm asking will these affect the finished cycle I don't want to have it to start over, thanks in advance!

Despite the multitude of hiding places, this rcs decided to hide in the filter. Even poked him to make sure he was alive...

Is there some kind of chart which tells you "If your Neocaridina is ... cm long, it's most likely between ... and ... months old"?

Well yea, what the title says. Can't seem to find anything like that anywhere, so i ask reddit :D

Obviously there will not be a 100% correct answer to this due to different growth speeds. But some general guidelines should be easily possible, right?

Eggs should’ve started hatching soon, but we came home to find her mid moult. She’s desperately trying to stuff the eggs back in. Any ideas why she started moulting?

Cycling and algae

Posted: 20 Mar 2019 01:36 PM PDT

Hi! Setting up my first tank. It's a Fluval Spec V.

In the process of cycling (only 5 or 6 days so far...) so I have a ways to go before skrimps get added. It's got plants, cholla wood, and Malaysian driftwood. And algae.

I know the algae will be good for shrimp, and I'm trying to be patient. I'm posting this to ask about the algae because the Java Fern has a full mane flowing off of it now, and I'm kinda like...should I get a snail or something? Trim a little of that off?

Oh - I'm using the light that came with the tank, and the tank only gets diffuse sunlight. No CO2 or fertilizers.

Just picked up this mama from my LFS. Any reason why she only has so few eggs?
