Salt mixes. What are you using and how do you like it?

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 07:34 PM PDT

I am sure this has been discussed too many times. But here it goes. I was using DD H2Ocean magnesium pro. Mixes well, I liked it but my alk was high-ish, 11-12. So I switched.

Enter ESV B-ionic. Mixes great, parameters are good. But, Its pretty expensive. Around 55 cents per gallon. In all honesty, my problem with this product is me. Most of the time I am mixing this stuff I may have smoked a little too much and am always afraid I have the mix ratios incorrect due (if you don't know ESV is a 4 part mix. 2 powdered parts and 2 liquid parts + RODI. Each measured in different amounts) to my lack of attention to detail when stoned. This won't change. My salt mix will.

I have been considering Red Sea coral pro, Fritz RPM, and HW-Marinemix Reefer. And last resort I'll head back to H2Ocean.

My husband is going to kill me - Coral is expensive

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 12:51 PM PDT

I checked my Paypal credit line when paying the bill and saw just how much I've charged up in coral and fish tank supplies.

My husband just paid it off.

He's going to KILL me.

Compulsive shopping and hobbies are not a good mix. But coral is AWESOME!

Info on the coral box Moon led

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 10:25 AM PDT

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these led lights before. I've heard they're a good alternative to the ai prime due to terrible customer service that's it been know for recently.

Seeding advice

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 09:46 AM PDT

Hello all, I am building another tank (I have a problem) and was hoping to gather some advice and help from people who have seeded their tanks, specifically with ammonia in a bottle to speed up the cycling process, I usually buy live rock but after paying $10 a pound for a 180 and 225 gallon I'm thinking about using dry this time around. Which leads to my second question, has anyone ever used the coralline algae in a bottle. Thanks

Newbie to reefs!

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 11:36 AM PDT

So I have always had freshwater aquariums, and I have them planted and such so I understand the necessities of water movement, good filter and such, but I have not a single clue as to where to start or what to do as far as a saltwater aquarium goes. I am totally a beginner with this. But anywho! I am hoping to just start something decently small like a 30g or 36g bowfront tank. I'm definitely looking for beginner stuff but of course Id still love it to look pretty for the kids! Any help would be amazing, or atleast direct me to someone who has good content that I could learn from! Thanks!

Help with pump shaft

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 01:36 PM PDT

Hi all. I recently purchased a Rossmont Riser R850 pump. Unfortunatly, clumsy me dropped it from a 10cm (4in) height. The ceramic shaft broke. Can't find a replacement, so following some reef forums advice, got some stainless steel rod of the same width, cut it to lenght, and put it in the pump. Now it's making some kind of grinding noice, and the vibrations went up a bit. After 1 night of the new shaft, it dismantled it and noticed it's wore a bit about half inch from the edges. Anybody knows what's up, or how can I repair it? Buying stuff of Amazon isn't my first option, since I'm not in USA, and everything takes near a month to ship to Argentina. It would be my last resort. Thanks in advance

Can I get some help pricing my tank for sale?

Posted: 21 Mar 2019 11:08 AM PDT

Long story short we've got a move coming up and I won't be able to take my set up with me. The timing isn't terrible though as I've fallen out of the hobby over the last couple months just doing basic maintenance now and feeding.

It's not a super nice setup by any means but I've got a 56 gallon column style tank with 2 hob filters. One is an aquaclear and one is a filter/surface skimmer combo thing (works surprisingly well for a HOB thing). I bought 2 bags of live sand and have about 40 pounds of live rock in the tank. It's currently only home to a clownfish a few snails and a fire shrimp. Corral wise I've got a good size piece of GSP and a couple nice hammer corrals.

What do you guys think would be fair for the whole set up? $2-300?
