I know that you can use sea salt as a treatment for goldfish diseases but can you use it all the time as a preventative ?

Please give me advices for the aquarium kits for my Comet Goldfish

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 12:09 PM PDT

I just got three small comet goldfish and I'm planning to get a fish tank for them. I saw the deal on Petco that 29 Gal tank is on sale for $29 so I'm planning to get the 29 Gal tank for my goldfish for now since the bigger one are too expensive for me right now. Will that be fine? Also, could you guys recommend any filters that are suitable for 29 Gal tank and is affordable? What type of filter is good for goldfish? What about air pump? Any other recommendations are welcome! Thanks you very much!!

Grandma surprise gifted me a goldfish, wondering about cheap setup options.

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 08:40 AM PDT

As the title said, grandma surprised me with a goldfish since she knows I keep fish. Problem is I keep Guppies in a 10 gallon tank, not at all suitable for a goldie. So I took the biggest planter I had, setup a sponge filter with the sponge from my established tank and setup a ghetto pond for him in the yard. That was a few weeks ago and luckily things are looking good for him. I never got any cloudiness so I'm guessing the sponge had enough bacteria to instant cycle the 'pond'.

I was wondering what some options would be for a cheap pond. I was thinking of just getting a bigger planter since the current one only has a volume of ~5 gallons. I've been doing weekly changes to try to make up for the small living space. Also I was wondering about food, I've been using this general purpose food.

Suspected dropsy on goldfish, please help....

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 02:47 AM PDT

Recently, i've noticed one of my goldfish get chunky all of the sudden. There's no pineconing yet but sometimes when the lighting and shadow makes the scales look slightly raised, scaring the shit outta me.

Wondering if it's dropsy. If it is any advice on how to combat this deadly symptom?

Water params: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, <10 nitrates (did a recent water change)
