Newly Remodeled 20g. Added new sand substrate and live plants. Now all it needs is the fish.

I want to change my aquarium setup entirely, but I don't know where to start.

Now that my goldfish is recovered from a mysterious illness (it was body/fin flukes), I want to spruce up my tank to be planted, have sand, and more decorations, but i dont know where to start. Right now, all that is in the tank is gravel, a small decoration, a medium plastic cave decoration, and a few seashells i found when i was a kid. I know my tank is small (29 gallons), but i seriously don't have enough room or money to maintain even a 55 gallon tank, so hopefully i can work with what i have so far. My goldfish is a comet, but she's very small. She's been small since i first got her, which is the reason i took her home in the first place. She's only about 4 inches and 3 years old.

I would really appreciate any tips from the community, since I'm only 3 years into fishkeeping and still a major noobie at it. What are some reccomendations for plants and types of sand? How should i take care of these plants, and do i need to do anything with them before i put them in the tank?

I want to have live plants for my two fan tails but I don't know what to put that they won't eat. Do y'all got some tips? (I have a sand substrate in a 46 gal)

Goldfish keep breaking my heart. (Dropsy)

So right now I have 4 goldfish. All Orandas. I have an empty 120g that's getting plumbed. I have my two main boys in a 60 gallon that's got both a HOB Aquaclear and a cannister filter. My two new little ones are in a 29g for their quarantine. The main guy I've had for about 3 years now. When I first got him he had swim bladder disorder from time to time but not for quite some time now. The only issue with him is he is a pig. He will snatch up anything I put in the tank. So last Thursday I was feeding them some small cubes of Repashy and he is just snatching them up before the other guy can get them. Saturday morning I'm doing a water change and I notice his left side looks a little bloaty. I look at him from above. Scales sticking out :( I think well maybe he is just constipated? Move him into his own tank, raise the temp up, add some epsom salt. Now his other side is starting to pinecone a little too. I lost two other fish to dropsy in the fall. Both of them had major issues with their swim bladder. Never any other signs of illness. I was super careful not to overfeed. But this guy has been totally fine. I just can't figure it out. I keep the water pristine. I am so scared that there is something in my tank that I have no idea about and the fish are totally normal until they just suddenly pinecone and by then it's too late. Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?
