Posted: 27 Mar 2019 08:31 PM PDT Hi, I have 3 commons in a recently upgraded tank (2 months ago). (It's still not big enough for what they will need in the future, but I have plans to upgrade before all you size queens come after me) they are in a 45-50 gallon tank and get 60-75% water changes every 6-7 days. I've always had problems with my largest one (who I think had some kind of birth defect because one side of her tail near the caudal fin has never had scales) , but lately I've been noting that after water changes they are all rubbing into the sand - resulting in scale loss. They aren't given enough time to heal by the next water change. They only do this the night after the water change. The water is treated with API stress coat and checked for temperature before it is put into the tank. Parameters are 0-0-5/10, measured after the water change. I see no indications of parasite, but I don't have a ton of knowledge on what to look for. What can I do for my babies? [link] [comments]

Goldfish won't eat despite clean water and variety of food choices. Posted: 27 Mar 2019 06:44 PM PDT Hello all, I can't get my ryukin goldfish, Quaz, to eat under any circumstances. He has two tank mates, who eat like adorable little pigs, but Quaz won't touch any food or forage under any conditions. The only reason I think that he's survived this long is that I had to use a feeding block for 7 days while I was out of town, which basically force fed him. I've checked his mouth for rocks, done water changes, offered a variety of foods, but he really only seems to care about looking in the reflection in the glass and occasionally gulping air. He sometimes visits with the other fish but usually keeps to himself. In my 3 weeks of having him, I don't think he's eaten a single time. He was a petsmart fish. The other 2 fish I got from a local store and they haven't had any problems since I've gotten them. I feel like the only thing that I can really do at this point is wait it out and see if he eats something, but I feel like he might just starve if this keeps up. Like I said the other 2 are perfectly fine, its almost like he just forgot how to eat. [link] [comments]

Two Fancy Goldfish. Just Cleaned Tank. Sulfur Smell. Posted: 27 Mar 2019 06:48 AM PDT I think I just barely rescued my two fancy goldfish from dying this morning. I did a water change last night where I removed about 1/4 of the water and replaced it with water treated with water conditioner and ammonia blocker. I do this probably about once every month to two months. I've done it dozens - if not hundreds - of times. This morning I go to feed them, and I notice that not only are they both listless, but the one is floating upside down. I panic. I filled up two gallon containers with treated water and immediately transfer one to each gallon container. I throw in some aquarium salt to help with the stress. I'm hating myself, thinking that I did something wrong last night with the water change - but I did it the same as I have always done. While I'm doing this, I notice a pretty pungent sulfur smell coming from the tank. I search for answers, and it comes up that the sulfur smell is a sign that the bad bacteria has overtaken the good bacteria. I think my fish are going to survive - hopefully. But, did I do this by cleaning the take too well? I guess I have to empty the entire tank and start over? Advice is needed, and would be very appreciated. [link] [comments]
