Posted: 22 Mar 2019 01:07 AM PDT Hello! I'm preparing to get an axolotl and am starting to look at decorations. I know I want a couple caves, but the only thing is that I'm not sure how big they'd have to be for the axolotl to fit through. What size caves would you guys recommend? (Also, if you wanna post a picture of your tank I wouldn't complain about the inspiration. XD) Thanks! [link] [comments]

Ammonia damaged their gills. How to fix Posted: 21 Mar 2019 02:05 PM PDT Hey folks! So my axolotls suffered some ammonia damage to their gills which caused them to get really short. Since I took charge of them I've been feeding them live nightcrawlers [instead of frozen bloodworms], changing their water 50-75% every other week, and 100% once a month. They seem a lot happier but their gills are still short. Aren't axolotls super good at regeneration? Did I miss something? Thanks [link] [comments]
What are good tank companions for axolotls? Posted: 21 Mar 2019 07:13 PM PDT Hey gang, first post in this sub and my question is in the title. My daughter got her axolotl, Sir Lazybottom, at christmas in a 5 gallon tank. He was small at the time but has grown to almost 3 or 4 times his original size in the last three months. http://imgur.com/a/2fqp0kN (Lazybottom looking majestic AF on his barrels) I picked up a 15 gallon tank yesterday and we'll be moving him this weekend. Even at his current size (which is much larger than the above photo) the new tank seems like it will be a bit empty for him. Are there any fish that would make good companions for him or should we get him a mate? Maybe some snails to snap at? We really want to keep him happy and any suggestions you might have are greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
