Aquarium fans for axoltls advice?

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 08:49 AM PDT

With the weather getting warmer, I am looking to buy an aquarium fan to help keep my water cool for the axies. It's currently 18 degrees but, want to prepare before it gets above 20. Looking for advice on which aquarium fans work best for axoltls?

I think my axolotl is sick, she's my first axolotl help please

This is my first axolotl and first aquatic pet. I got her around 6 months ago and don't have the money to go to a vet and pet store employees aren't usually helpful.

Symptoms:

  1. Her tail has been on and off covered in these white spots. I thought it was ich but I've used several remedies for it (a salt bath and two commercial cures) which have had varying success. Her tail is also green towards the end.

  2. Her gills are very pale (which I read might be normal if she hasn't been very active) but they also seem smaller amd less healthy

Any help is much appreciated, thank you!

Entertainment and tank size for lotls

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 04:20 AM PDT

My lotl is very interactive and even enjoys the occasional pat on the head. Aside from humming the jaws theme when feeding, does anyone have suggestions on how to entertain them?

Also, I am about to buy a bigger tank, what size would be appropriate for a fully grown lotl? I wanted mine to have a bit more room to swim around so that it didn't get too chubby.

Thanks!

She has finally kicked the bucket

For anyone who saw some of my posts pass by and are curious. My first (technically 2nd) axolotl has passed away somewhere around noon today. I had a really long night and only went to bed this morning around 8-9am. She still seemed "fine", well for as much as she could look fine I guess, and even ate a bit. Later today, around 4-ish pm, after showering and stuff, I went up to check her out and she was laying dead still ... as in she was actually dead. I'm not gonna lie, part of me is actually relieved. I didn't care much about the time and effort I had to put in her, cleaning out the bin, feeding, helping her calm down but I always felt a bit ... guilty, for trying so hard. Especially during the times where she seemed to be getting worse instead of better and mostly during the past few days. But to be entirely honest, I cleaned out her bin and she's now in fresh water. I don't really know what to do. I know she won't just come back alive but again, I'm not really sure what to do with her now :(

She's technically 1 of 2 of my first axolotls. However one of em died shortly after I got it. It was in bad shape and I guess because of the change in environment it wasn't able to adjust and heal itself. It was really small/young and had some missing limbs when I got it. I buried that one in my yard, a few years back but now the entire place is practically swarmed with cats so that's not really an option anymore. I don't want a cat to dig her up :/
