Dividing 10 Gallon Tank?

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 10:17 PM PST

I have a couple 10 gallon tanks which are pretty sparsely populated atm. They have dual sponge filters running on each end.. I was thinking of getting a mattenfilter kind of tank divider so I could keep more kinds of shrimp. Would dividing a 10 gallon be okay?

Dry start carpeting plant suggestions.

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 05:06 PM PST

I'm looking to restart a 10 gal tank as shrimp dirt tank. So, I wanted some suggestions on any carpeting plants that are great in a dirt tank and will do good with a finnex 24/7 planted tank light. I have had pearl weed and Cuba as carpeting plants in the past but just want other options/options and any extra two cents anyone wants to give me about a dirt tank. Thanks!

p.s. if selling any carpeting plants let me know!

Looking for advice on how to "seed" my established tank for my friend.

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 07:01 PM PST

A good friend of mine is going to be starting his own shrimp tank. I explained the waiting game of cycling and he asked if there was a quicker way. Can I donate him some water from a pwc and maybe an old, biofilmed filter (not the one currently in, I made it through the nightmare of changing my filter because of perceived dirtiness) /biomax cylinders? How long should I leave a fresh filter or bag of biomax in my established water before giving it to him? (Assuming it's a viable method.)

Is anyone interested in a bag of Hikari Mini algae wafers, Hikari algae wafers or Top fins Algae wafers?

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 12:53 PM PST

I have a bag of opened hikari Mini algae wafers, Hikari algae wafers and Top Fin Algae wafers. They were opened within the last month. I didn't read that Hikari has copper in it but the Top fin ones don't but my snails completely ignore it. Just pay shipping and you can have whatever you want. I'm looking to sell the Hikari together since there's less of them in the package but I will sell them separate or sell everything altogether I have included photos of what is left in the packages. photos

Confusing Die-Off, Trying to Find Cause

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 11:06 AM PST

So, I've had shrimp for about ten days now and everything seemed off to a good start. I purchased 5 and then an additional six from PetCo. This was a previously cycled tank that held my betta before I moved him to my ten gallon. Water parameters are pH 7.8, gH 9, kH 7, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrates about 5-10. TDS is a bit on the high end at 300. The shrimp only sometimes feature a White Line of Death (40% of the time when N=5 so not sure if significant, not prominent, might just be because their tails are bent rather than a failed molt). I'm beginning to wonder if copper is playing a role as I am using Flourish tabs which have tiny trace amounts or maybe my tap has copper in it as the city 15 miles south of me has a Cu reading of 49 ppb, which is where I purchased the shrimp. Only other possible source of copper I could think of would be the Design-A-Vines they sell that the shrimp seem to absolutely love, which I also purchased from PetCo. Other than that all of my parameters seem to be able to support basic Red Cherry Shrimp as far as a I can tell.

Opae Ula Shrimp care questions

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 02:39 AM PST

Started with about 20 - 30 Opae Ula shrimps in a 5 gallon tank and I've had them for about 9 months now. Recently one of the shrimp became berried and over the course of a couple of weeks she lost almost all her eggs! I counted about 17 at first and now I can only visibly see 2. What are some possibilities that could have caused this?

Also I noticed at the top of my tank, my angel hair moss have been floating and looks weirdly odd. What is happening here?

Red light questions

Posted: 15 Jan 2019 10:00 AM PST

Hi

I have my shrimp tank in a small room near a red grow light for some indoor plants I keep.

Will the red light negatively affect them?

Thanks.
