| Bristle Worms in Dehydrated Foods Posted: 07 Jun 2021 06:39 PM PDT I use various dehydrated cubes of shrimp or the like soaked in selcon and mix in stuff like paracoccus powder Sometimes. Today when I dumped some in there was a 2" long mostly intact bristle worm. It was the same color as the powder and everything it mixed with, so Im 99% sure it came from the dehydrated cubes or other food. Is this dangerous for the fish? Like it goes to gulp what it thinks is food and gets bristles in its mouth? Ive never really paid attn to when I feed so I don't know if this is something normal or not. Anyone know if I should be concerned or if this is normal? I usually used frozen cubes or make my own fresh stuff and only recently got the big jugs of misc dehydrated things to mix in. | Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:15 PM PDT I have become obsessed with getting different types of hermit crabs I like them so much more than the clown fish. I have 5 red (I started with) I was given a banded eye a few days ago and today I saw a zebra and got it. So red white and black and white legs I really want to have different types the banded eye got a long well with the reg legs. I introduced the zebra tonight I guess I will see how that goes So my question then I guess I have a 32gal biocube how many can peacefully co-exist I have ~25 pounds live rock built very cave like. I have also in the tank 2 peppermint shrimp for the aiptasia they do a wonderful job at keeping those down. A red scooter blenny I'm looking for a home for he's AMAZING but I don't think he will do well sleeping in the sand with so many hermits walking around at night. Also 4 sexy shrimp plus the hitchhikers bristle worms etc. Also 9 total different types of snails oh and an emerald crab so I believe the total count is 3 fish 7 hermits 9 snails 6 shrimp 1 crab that's 26 total things I have added do I have too much already? Any input and ideas would be appreciated! ( I have empty shells for the hermits and 6 of the snails are bumblebee/nasarrius so they are under the sand most of the time) [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:10 PM PDT I've been following Dr Tim's fishless cycling plan.. to fill in the situation so far.. 55 Gallon main tank purchased some dry rock and sand online.. i purchased a single larger rock from a local reef store. it was sitting out on display(dry) but had been in their tanks in the past. I started the Dr Tim's cycling with half my goal rocks and after about 3-4 days had the rest and finished the rockscape. my situation is i added ammonia on the first day. and tested about 2ppm. the following add ammonia day i tested again.. I thought maybe it was below the 2 mark and so I added the second ammonia dose. FYI: It's tough for me to compare these testing colors, except on obvious levels. I think this brought it up to about 4ppm. I have not dosed ammonia again since. I also forgot to remove the filters and turn off the skimmer for the first Dr Tim's dosing(second dosing later). I am now on day 13 or so. And my ammonia seems to still be around 4ppm my nitrite I believe is maxed out on my test kit and my nitrate is I believe between 20-40ppm. What has me stumped is the ammonia still seems to be at about 4ppm after 9 days while nitrite has shot up and nitrate seems to be slowly crawling up. I Thought maybe rockscaping after the initial dose disturbed the process. A lot of sand was moved around and such in the process. So Yesterday I added a second dose of Dr Tim's. Now that Ive re-dosed Dr Tim's I'm under the impression I should wait to do any water changes, 7 days based on reading other posts here and on forums. But will allowing nitrite to get so high cause further stall outs? am I under the correct impressions so far? How does my ammonia still seem to be around 4ppm? Maybe something from the rock I got at the local store? If that's the case, Will it settle eventually? Should I remove the rock? This would be very difficult. I used it as a center piece and its glued in now. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 07 Jun 2021 02:49 PM PDT I need to get a reef light and power heads I was looking at the AI Prime 16 HD and for the power heads x2 vortex mp10's. For a college student this adds up very expensive so I thought of getting used gear at a cheaper price. Is it worth the price difference risk vs reward? Ai Prime 16 HD costs $209.99 new Used on offer up/Craigslist I saw as low as $150 Vortex mp10 power heads are $299.99 each Used I can get around $200 each [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:39 AM PDT I'm eyeing a 15G Waterbox Peninsula. My concern is our family likes to travel and while we have house sitters for the dog/cat having a tank sitter isn't really an option. Can I build this out to run a week without any love? An ATO to fight evaporation, auto feeder to keep a fish or 2 happy, and skimmer as extra insurance in case things go sideways. Can I have a casual nano reef that a house sitter can ignore for a week? (have experience with FOWLR years ago, drilled w/ refug. looking to rejoin hobby) [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 07 Jun 2021 08:47 PM PDT Hey everyone! I'm looking at starting a reef tank soon. My main question is this. Is it better to build an aquarium with the separate parts, or to buy an all in one like the Fluval Evo 13.5? Price wise. Or are there any benefits to either side that make the cost more bearable. | Posted: 07 Jun 2021 08:24 PM PDT So I have a 55 gallon tank with your standard JAGER heater.I'm building a refugium that will have around about 178 ghp and am hoping to move my heater from the display tank back to the new refugium area (my sump is too small to fit it).so would this new area be able to heat my tank even though it only has 178 gallons per hour? By the way this is sort of an experiment and was wondering if anyone else had tried something like this [link] [comments] | ||
