| Posted: 05 Jun 2021 07:09 PM PDT Not sure if anyone recognized but I was asking a lot of questions a couple weeks ago. Im a newbie and this was the first time I was actually starting from scratch so I wanted to get everything right. I've never been great with plants and was avoiding getting them as much as possible but finally got the courage to get them for this tank. I've been running the tank for 3 weeks now and the tank (especially the plants) has been doing wonderfully. The Java fern had a lot of brown when i bought it (it was from petsmart so not that surprising) and the brown is almost completely gone. It also used to have dead stems where leaves were cut (im assuming for propagation or because they were dying) and the stems have completely turned green again and a couple of them have been growing new leaves. The frogbit has also been doing great (not too surprised lol) and most of them have doubled in size. Some of the baby leaves on the frogbit have already grown to the same size as the other leaves and some of the frogbit plants are already growing new leaves. The one that caught my eye the most tho was one of the frogbit plants. It kinda floated away to a corner so it didn't get too much light so it ended up melting. I expected the leaves to die after falling off of the stem but to my surprise they started growing roots and one of them had a baby leaf growing out of it (I decided to keep the leaves in the tank just in case). I also have about 3 water lettuce plants in there and they've also been doing great to my surprise (my ph is pretty high and I heard thst they like lower ph). One of them is very noticably bigger and has a bunch of new leaves growing while the others have been doing alright (they kept getting sucked onto the filter so I had to keep removing them). This tank is really making me think that I have to add plants to my 20 gallon (still need to get a new light for the tank tho) and has changed my view on plants completely. The tank is cycled now (at least I think so its my first time doing that but im gonna continue testing just in case there's an ammonia spike) and now im just looking for the perfect betta to give a home too. I just thought that I would share my journey and thank everyone who helped :) [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 05 Jun 2021 08:53 PM PDT I just bought a 5oz. Bottle of Potassium Nitrate for making my own fertilizer. Has anyone done this? You just make a solution and do the math (using rotala butterfly). I get 300 doses with the mix, and get "therapeutic" levels of both nitrogen and potassium. 16ppm nitrate and 10ppm potassium. That's $.03 a dose. With seachem you have to buy a bottle for nitrogen and another for potassium. I haven't found a diy solution for phosphorous but I'm having a good time with this. Watch me on here in a week bitching about algae. [link] [comments] |
