| Kind old man at the store trying to sell me a heater Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:23 PM PDT There's this LFS run by a great old man. I'm looking to upgrade my tank to a 75 gallon for my goldfish and he is offering his expertise when I was getting a quote for everything. The man clearly knows fish and I don't sense him trying the hard sell here, but he recommends a heater for the tank. I don't currently have a heater and my house stays around 70 in the winter/ 74 in the summer. Goldfish seem happy. But of course, this man knows more than me so I'm reluctant to ignore his advice. So this is where you come in... Is a heater a worthwhile addition or is it mostly just going to sit in my tank doing nothing? Thanks! [link] [comments] | ||

| Injury or just new wen growth? Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:04 PM PDT | ||
| Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:47 PM PDT Hi all, I'm having trouble keeping Nitrates down in my 75 gallon tank. I do a 40-50% water change every 3 days. The Nitrates are always around 10/20 ppm before I do a water change. I tested my tap water and it has 5.0 ppm Nitrate. Does this mean I'm not doing anything with water changes? I also do gravel vacuums during water changes and there is always a lot of waste. Could I be over feeding? I just have one single Comet goldfish who measures at least a foot from head to tail. I feed him 3 servings of small Omega One sinking goldfish pellets. Each serving includes 2 pinches of about 10-25 pellets. I know this sounds like a lot but they are really small. He'll usually scoop them all up in one gulp right out of my hand before they can even hit the bottom. I'm planning to densely stock the tank with plants. Right now all I have in there is a Wisteria and some Algea. I have some Anacharis stems on the way which should arrive by next week. [link] [comments] | ||

| Can I feed a clutch of mystery snail eyes to my goldfish? Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:55 AM PDT I have a cluster of eggs and not really looking to have dozens of snails right now, and any way I screwed up the cluster by submerging while adding some new water, which was days ago now and am actually just seeing them today.. so not likely they'll make it. Can I feed them to the goldfish? [link] [comments] | ||
