Cycling tips

Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:22 AM PDT

Hey, my grandmother and I decided to get 2 axolotls for each other as birthday presents. I've been researching cycling, and I had a couple of questions, as it is my job to take care of them.

  1. When cycling, can I use some water from my betta tank to speed it up?
  2. I've also seen some quick start supplies that supposedly contain nitrifying bacteria. Does that actually work, or is it snake oil?
  3. How long should I wait between conditioning my water and adding ammonia to my water, which goes first?
  4. Would adding plants help it cycle faster?

I'm super excited, so I'm trying to cycle as fast as possible. Any tips or tricks would be helpful.

Also, since I'm getting 2 females, should I put up a divider between them? I'm hoping to get them when they're old enough to live together, but I heard a horror story on youtube last night, and now I'm not sure if keeping them together is the best idea.

Hey friends! Need advice on cycling tank

Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:20 PM PDT

Hey guys! I'm cycling my axolotl tank now.( Noodle is chillin in a 10g I'm doing a 50% water change to everyday, 100% water) I am at the ammonia stage of the cycling. (.25) I was wondering if I do anything about the ammonia. I also clean my filter frequently, and I was wondering if I should be cleaning the filter frequently. Let me know y'all's advice!
