| Posted: 19 May 2020 12:14 AM PDT Do you think Goldfish get depressed? My Butterfly Telescope isn't eating and being a loner after his brother/friend passed away last week. Am I just projecting human emotions onto my fish, or have you seen this behaviour with your fishy friends? [link] [comments] | ||

| Can you keep ryukin and comets together in pond? Posted: 18 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT A few weeks ago I added 6 comets to my pond (the only inhabitants) and have basically never seen them since other than stripes of orange chilling in an algae chunk on the side. They're terrified little 2" buggers. 750 gallon pond. Just after that happened a friend of mine ran into housing issues and asked if I could hang onto her three ryukins while she figures stuff out. They're 5 inches? I've been keeping them at work because my cat has an awful track record. My friend is now moving in with her folks and she can't bring her aquarium with her. She gave away the rest of her buds but was holding out hope for her ryukin. She asked if I could take them. I can't really bring them home (again, my cat is a POS) but I could potentially add them to my pond. Cat is indoor only btw. They've been effectively quarantined for three weeks and seem healthy, I'm just worried about if they can compete with the comets? The comets have literally done nothing since I got them, they don't even eat the food I toss them (I have noticed the fly larvae has gone down). My work is chill and will let me hold onto them long enough to re-home but it would be nice to be able to give my friend status reports. She's assured me she won't be mad if they croak 😂 [link] [comments] | ||

| Newly added ghost shrimp with comet goldfish set up Posted: 18 May 2020 04:15 PM PDT Hello! I just bought 21 ghost shrimp for my 20 gallon aquarium for cleaning purposes. I put some new hides in for the shrimp so that will be save. I already know my goldfish, Suki, will probably eat a few of them as time goes on so I'm not really worried about that. What I'm more worried about is how to continue caring for my tank with this invisible little stinkers floating around the tank. When it comes time for water changes, I usually take out Suki and all the decorations. I then keep Suki in a temporary bowl and then clean the decorations off in my bathtub. I have a sand type substrate so I usually clean whatever debris is on top with my gravel vac and then stir up the sand to get buried debris out. Which leads me to my concern... Should I search and remove each and every single ghost shrimp out of the tank when cleaning or leave them be or what??? Also what are some general care tips for ghost shrimp in my 20 gallon? I've had ghost shrimp before and most of them get eaten pretty quick so I didn't bother learning how to care for them. But now that I have better places for them to hide I wanna help increase the longevity of their lives in my tank. Thanks for the help!! [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 18 May 2020 02:52 PM PDT Hi guys, with the weather getting warmer, my bigger guy in my tank has been trying to breed which lead to some stress in my tank (55 gallon bow front with two adult goldfish and one adolescent). This stress looks like it made my female susceptible to some fin rot. The water parameters are: 0ppm ammonia 0ppm nitrite 20ppm nitrate 7.00 pH No presenting symptoms other than early signs (white lining of the fins). She's eating and swimming perfectly and doesn't seem to be in any pain. What's the best way to cure this before it becomes a bigger problem? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 18 May 2020 08:52 AM PDT My son won a gold fish at the fair 3 years ago and Fred the goldfish is going strong. The light built in the top of the fish tank stopped working and I cannot find a replacement for it. It looks like I will need to buy a new tank to get a new light. Is the light for the fish or just for looks of the tank? There is a plant in the tank as well. The tank is in a well lit place in the kitchen. [link] [comments] | ||
