Goldfish - Aquariums - Finally got some plants into the 1,000g Thai Oranda pond. We worked on the seating area for about a week, and today was the first day I had time. The fish are so happy.

Lethargic exorcist fish, help!

Posted: 17 May 2020 08:19 PM PDT

"I don't want a tank in my house because they stink." Said by an acquaintance who had a partner that never tended to his betta tank.

Posted: 17 May 2020 11:37 PM PDT

I grimaced. This girl said this to me three years ago or longer and I still think about it sometimes. Anyone who is new here: a cycled tank that's getting proper upkeep should not stink unless you've added a product that smells, like Microbelift.

I can't imagine having fish in water that stinks and not thinking "hm maybe this isn't good for the fish and isn't normal."

So found my female being chased this morning, stuck her in here and squeezed eggs out, then used 2 males chasing and squeezed some stuff out. Changed the water and added an air stone. This is my first time trying to breed goldfish so any help on what to do next would be appreciated!

Container pond summer temperature

Posted: 17 May 2020 04:36 PM PDT

Hello! I was thinking about setting up a backyard container pond and getting a few goldies for it (probably fantails). I live in central Oklahoma where the temperature can hover around 100 degrees for a month, sometimes creeping higher. That's pretty hot. I can find a lot of info on the ideal temperatures for goldfish at different times of the year outdoors, but not how hot a, let's say, 70 gallon tub might get in 100 degree weather in the shade. Anyone have any experience or tips on this? If it's too hot, it's too hot, and I can accept that.

Anyone else's Goldfish stopped pooping?

Posted: 17 May 2020 09:59 AM PDT

I realise that's an absurd question, but that's what seems to have happened. I've kept Goldfish getting on for 5 years now, Neil since the start & Norbert for just over a year, they're two comets in a 240ltr tank & the one constant has always been a lot of waste.

I've got into a routine of twice weekly water changes (54ltrs each time) which seems to work well enough, but even with those regular changes & two cannister filters I would always be amazed at how much filth would emerge from under small decorations at the slightest nudge of the siphon. The tank would look clean, but disturb a small fake moss ball & an instant poop whirlpool would emerge for me to hoover up

However, for the last month, maybe a bit more I've been seeing very little poop & what I do see seems to be mainly congealed lumps of sand, which suggests to me that they're just eating sand, maybe I'm suddenly underfeeding? I don't know how that would happen as I haven't changed my routine & they haven't had a growth spurt but it's very weird.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? They don't seem to be bloating at all & their behavior hasn't changed, no clamping of fins or anything, but something weird is going on. I've always fed them once a day in the morning, they have a couple of peas one day & fluval bug bites the next. I'm thinking of increasing this to bug bits in the morning & a pea at night to see how it goes but I've always been cautious of overfeeding.

Thanks in advance folks 🙂

This is my fish steve whi have a lump on his side, noticed just over a week ago and have been treating with bacteria and parasite treatment

Posted: 17 May 2020 02:12 PM PDT

I discovered my fishtank is full of mosquito larvae and my single goldfish doesn't appear to be eating any of them. Any clues appreciated.

Posted: 17 May 2020 09:47 AM PDT

The fish is still vigorous at eating pellets and fairly active, with no visual cues for any illnesses, since I got it. What could it be? How do I get rid of the larvae, other than more frequent water changes?

I live in an area that is actively having issues with human illness from mosquito, I cannot afford to wait much longer for it to catch up and eat them.

CANADIAN HOBBYIST: What are you doing without access to antibiotics?

Posted: 17 May 2020 01:10 PM PDT

I have been treating a sick goldfish that's been bottom sitting with suspected internal infection (stringy poop) plus visible lymphocystis that oozes white pus. I have managed to keep him stable and alive with Melafix and Pimafix for two months now as I wait and hope that antibiotics can reach me from the US.

The shipments seem to have gotten stuck at the border.

I have been searching everywhere for a vet who could see and prescribe antibiotics without any success. I even reached out to a nearby commerical aquarium and contacted the vet college nearby with no success.

I want to do everything in my power to save this guy. Do you have any tips for me? What should I try next?

I think my goldfish have parasites

Posted: 17 May 2020 09:34 AM PDT

My oldest owned goldfish - Steve - grew lumps on his side a week ago with one scale looking really white so I assumed he had an infection and it would burst (he's a fair fish so he's alway been very weak). However, this week I have looked at my other goldfish who are a different type to him and they have white spots on their gills, when I looked up what it could be online it seemed like they must have parasites.

I was wondering if theres any reccomendations on how to treat them, I'm currently using the bacteria and parasite Interpret treatment on Steve but I'm not sure how well it is helping.

Any advice would be wonderful and very much appreciated
