I bought a retro drain and a pump but idk if that's a good idea either- seems like the only option but then I would have two pumps running in series. [link] [comments] | ||

| Sad story, what do you think happened? Posted: 16 May 2020 03:34 AM PDT I went home to my parents for lockdown and it lasted a bit longer than I thought it would, and I had made the decision not to take my koi with me as it was a 5 hour car trip in winter. Anyway, I went back home, and what I found was one was missing with no sign whatsoever, and one was sort of half there and half eaten. Aside from how bad I feel about my little buddies having to wake up from hibernation with not much food left, I don't know what happened to Bob at all. Would they have totally eaten him? There's no bones or anything. I think 90% of Jane was still there. But why would she have died? Did they kill her? Was it toxins? The other two fish are seemingly healthy. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 15 May 2020 11:34 PM PDT We have finished digging our Koi pond, plumbing is ready to be put in. I have the liner, but I'm thinking the underlayment needs to be better than what I purchased. Can you tell me what you used under you liner for underlayment? [link] [comments] | ||
| Question about Algae in pond for new koi Posted: 15 May 2020 11:13 AM PDT TLDR: Can I add koi to this pond that has algae or should I kill the algae first Hi- new to this community as well as ponds/koi! Sorry for the long post I had this pond put in in November, and 3 weeks ago had it completely cleaned out (there was a lot of muck from leaves that had gotten in, as well as a bunch of string algae that I killed using algaecide). If it's helpful, the pump is a Aquascape Tsurrumi 9PL (7300 GPH) and the filter is a Biofalls Signature 2500. I had 4 lilies planted (two have broken the surface) as well as some marginals and some others at the top at (in/on?) the biofilter. The pond is a total of ~2500 gallons, and I would like to add some koi. I want to start on the low end (5 to start) since I am new to keeping them (though I have experience with aquariums). My question is that algae have started to grow on all the rock surfaces. The water is clear, but "tinted" or appears green. It isn't string algae (at least none is appearing yet), but just a fuzzy green coating.I've been adding beneficial bacteria since the cleaning, as well as some clarifier products. Should I add algaecide and kill this algae before adding fish? Is it ok to add fish when there is this much algae in it? I have a basic understanding of the nitrogen cycle and realize that all my plants probably aren't doing too much yet, and don't want to cause more problems by adding fish. I'm just unsure if adding now would help/hurt/ have no effect on it. Thank you! [link] [comments] | ||
| How do I remove a 50 foot pond liner? it's too heavy! Posted: 15 May 2020 01:22 PM PDT I can't drag it out, really. Last time I had to do this, I cut it up but there was a ton of dirt in so it made more sense and it had a lot of holes in it. This one has no holes but is pvc and im replacing with epdm (it's the incorrect width as well, stupid me!) Will folding it up work better? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 15 May 2020 05:29 AM PDT I think my koi are fighting. Yeah they probably hate each other. I have 11 koi in a spacious pond and they're straight up brawling. I don't think they're mating because when I woke up this morning it's the first time they ever started fighting. One of them had his fishy tummy sticking out of the surface of the water this morning so I went up with the net because I thought he was dead but when I got closer he went back underwater fast!! Why do my koi fricken hate each other!?!?!?!?? [link] [comments] |
